DT Construction Header

Hi everyone,

The season end to the Renton Farmers Market is just around the corner. There’s two more chances to visit the market before it concludes for the season on September 28. You can park at the City Center Parking Garage for up to 10-hours of free parking while you’re visiting the market or shopping at the local stores that are open year-around.

ACCESS DOWNTOWN

Please plan ahead for detours as we rebuild the northside of intersections on S 2nd St at Williams Ave S and Wells Ave S.

Please follow posted signs and directions from flaggers for safe access.

Park for free at the City Center Parking Garage on S 2nd St.

A travel lane will remain open on the south side of S 3rd St during stormwater work. Daytime intersection closures at Morris Ave S and Whitworth Ave S may be necessary, in which case we will detour traffic to Shattuck Ave S and S 4th St. Please follow signs for local business access routes.

1. Rebuilding the northside intersections on S 2nd St at Williams Ave S and Wells Ave S

We are continuing our intersection work on the northside of S 2nd St at Williams Ave S and Wells Ave S. We’re wrapping up our underground utility work and preparing to build the forms that will hold the concrete mixture.

Two-way cul-de-sacs will continue to be in place to maintain local access to homes and businesses leading up to the intersection closure.

This work is weather dependent.

Crews use a small double drum roller to level out the uneven soil and gravel.

After completing installation of underground utilities, crews fill in trenches and holes and use a double drum to level out the ground before building the forms that will hold concrete mixtures.

2. Ground pavement on S 2nd St, S 3rd St, and Wells Ave S

We’re continuing minor work on S 2nd St and S 3rd St between Main Ave S and Burnett Ave S. Through traffic on both S 2nd St and S 3rd St will continue to be reduced to a single-lane to avoid confusion at the all-way stops.

Drivers will experience bumpier and louder roads on S 2nd St, S 3rd St, and Wells Ave S since our recent grinding work to create a level surface for future new pavement.

3. Stormwater work on S 3rd St

Stormwater utility installation on S 3rd St will continue this week, moving east between Shattuck Ave S and Morris Ave S on the north side of S 3rd St. Street parking will be affected; alternate parking is available in the City Center Parking Garage. A travel lane remains open on the south side of the street. Daytime intersection closures at Morris Ave S and Whitworth Ave S may be necessary, in which case a detour to Shattuck Ave S and S 4th St will be in place. This phase of work is expected to last into October.

4. Stormwater work on Morris Ave S

Stormwater work continues on Morris Ave S with trenching and pipe installation. Morris Ave S will remain closed during daytime work hours, opening again each evening. This work is expected to wrap up next week.

5. Construction continuing on Houser Way S

This week, the Houser Way Intersection & Pedestrian Improvements Project began intersection work on Houser Way at Williams Ave S and Wells Ave S. Upcoming work will focus on storm and sewer utilities at both intersections, starting at Wells Ave S.

Expect traffic on Wells Ave S and Williams Ave S to be reduced to one lane at Houser Way S during this project.

6. Sewer on Whitworth Ave S

Starting Monday, we will begin sewer utility improvements on Whitworth Ave S between S 2nd and S 3rd streets. The road will be closed during daytime work hours, opening again each evening. Street parking will be closed along Whitworth Ave S throughout the duration of this work. Alternate parking is available in the City Center Parking Garage.

UPCOMING WORK

Storm on Whitworth Ave S

Construction crews will begin stormwater utility work on Whitworth Ave S in early October.

Sewer on S 2nd St

After completion of the sewer installation in Whitworth Ave S, construction will begin on the sewer main in S 2nd Street and move west. This work is expected to begin in early October.
