DT Construction Header

Hi everyone,

As we begin to reach the end of summer, there’s still time to get out and enjoy the sun before it leaves us for cloudy days. Visit www.rentondowntown.com/events to see what’s happening around Renton.

ACCESS DOWNTOWN

As both projects work on intersections downtown, please plan ahead for detours as we rebuild the southside of intersections on S 2nd St at Williams Ave S and Wells Ave S

CURRENT CONSTRUCTION IN DOWNTOWN RENTON

Downtown construction map. Construction details on map outlined in text below following map.

1. Rebuilding the southside intersections on S 2nd St at Williams Ave S and Wells Ave S

We are continuing to rebuild the intersections on S 2nd St at Williams Ave S and Wells Ave S. We’ve demolished and removed the old concrete from the southside of the intersections and are beginning to build the forms to install new concrete in phases. Two-way cul-de-sacs have been implemented to the south of the intersections to maintain local access to businesses leading up to the closure.

Once we reach substantial completion of rebuilding the southside of the intersection, we will flip the cul-de-sacs to the northside of the intersections and begin working to rebuild the northside.

This work is weather dependent.

partial intersection closure

Partial intersection closures are implemented to provide adequate space for crews to demolish and remove old concrete for intersectin work.

2. Construction continues on S 2nd St and S 3rd St

We’re continuing work on S 2nd St and 3rd St between Main Ave S and Burnett Ave S.

Through traffic on both S 2nd St and S 3rd St will continue to be reduced to a single-lane to avoid confusion at the all-way stops.

3. 3. S 3rd St open to vehicle access with curb restoration on S 3rd St and Burnett Ave S

This week, we completed major work on S 3rd St from Shattuck Ave through Rainier Ave S.

Sewer utility night work at the intersection of S 3rd St and Rainier Ave S is complete. We also completed road restoration on S 3rd St between Rainier and Shattuck. S 3rd St is now open to through traffic with a few lane restrictions between Burnett Ave S and Rainer Ave S.

Restoration of curb and sidewalk at Burnett Ave S is the final touches to completion of the sewer work on S 3rd St, which will be wrapped up in the coming weeks. We will return to S 3rd St later this year to replace the storm main between Smithers Ave S and Shattuck Ave S.

4. Storm Utility work on S 2nd St

DUIP continues installation storm utility work on S 2nd St between Morris Ave S and Shattuck Ave S and is anticipated to be completed next week. This work began work at S 2nd St and Shattuck Ave S moving east towards Morris Ave S. During construction, S 2nd St will be reduced to two lanes on the south side of the street.
