City of Renton sent this bulletin at 08/16/2021 06:20 PM CDT
Hi everyone, The Downtown Renton construction projects are installing several new fire hydrants and utility control boxes. The South Renton Neighborhood Association, in collaboration with the Renton Municipal Arts Commission is seeking artists to participate in a public art campaign to “adopt” and design fire hydrants within the South Renton neighborhood. The program will continue until all fire hydrants in the neighborhood are adorned with artwork from local artists. Applications are open to all who are interested. You can learn more about the art campaign at www.rentondowntown.com/hydrants. The Renton Arts Commission is also seeking artists to design three vinyl wrap designs for three utility control boxes in downtown Renton. The deadline for submissions is August 27. You can learn more at www.rentonwa.gov/RMAC.

ACCESS DOWNTOWNAs both projects work on intersections downtown, please plan ahead for detours as we:
Please follow posted signs and directions from flaggers for safe access. CURRENT CONSTRUCTION IN DOWNTOWN RENTON |
1. Rebuilding southside of intersections on S 2nd St at Williams Ave S and Wells Ave S We are rebuilding the intersections on S 2nd St at Williams Ave S and Wells Ave S. Our work at the intersections will include demolishing the old concrete intersections, making underground utility connections, and installing new concrete at both intersections. Two-way cul-de-sacs have been implemented to the south of the intersections to maintain local access to businesses leading up the intersection closure. Once we reach substantial completion of rebuilding the southside of the intersection, we will flip the cul-de-sacs to the northside of the intersections and begin working to rebuild the northside. This work is weather dependent. |

2. Construction continues on S 2nd St and S 3rd St
We’re continuing work on S 3rd St and S 2nd St between Main Ave S and Burnett Ave S. Through traffic on both S 2nd St and S 3rd St will continue to be reduced to a single-lane to avoid confusion at the all-way stops. |
