Downtown Renton Construction: Plan ahead for detours with intersection work

Hi Everyone,

As both projects work on intersections downtown, please plan ahead for detours as we:

• Rebuild the southside of intersections on S 2nd St at Williams Ave S and Wells Ave S
• Work overnight at the intersection of S 3rd St and Rainier Ave S

Please follow posted signs and directions from flaggers for safe access.

CURRENT CONSTRUCTION IN DOWNTOWN RENTON

 

1. Rebuilding southside of intersections on S 2nd St at Williams Ave S and Wells Ave S We are planning to begin intersection work on S 2nd St at Williams Ave S and Wells Ave S as early as August 9. Our work at the intersections will include demolishing the old concrete starting at Wells Ave S, making utility connections, and installing new concrete at both intersections. Detours will be in place while we rebuild the southside of the intersection, followed by detours for the northside intersection closure. Sections of Williams Ave S and Wells Ave S will operate as two-way cul-de-sacs to maintain local access to residential homes and businesses leading up the intersection closure. We plan to prioritize rebuilding the intersections over the remaining sidewalk work on the southside of S 2nd St, so anticipate minor detours when walking. We will always maintain access to at least 3 corners at an intersection. This work is weather dependent.

2. Construction continues on S 2nd St and S 3rd St

We’re continuing work on S 3rd St and S 2nd St between Main Ave S and Burnett Ave S. Through traffic on both S 2nd St and S 3rd St will continue to be reduced to a single-lane to avoid confusion at the all-way stops.

The contractor continues to work on S 3rd St by installing and configuring the new traffic signals.

3. Night work at intersection of S 3rd St and Rainier Ave S

DUIP has completed installation of the new sewer main from Rainier Ave S to Shattuck Ave S. Monday, August 16th, road restoration between Rainier and Shattuck will be completed prior to beginning the night work at the intersection of S 3rd St and Rainier Ave S.

Beginning Monday, August 16th, the City of Renton will be doing sewer utility work at the intersection of S 3rd St and Rainier Ave S. Work will take place in the evening from 7 PM – 5 AM and is anticipated for 3-5 nights. We will be doing this work at night to reduce impacts to the intersection during the day. Work will be noisiest during use of saw cutting and vibratory equipment. The work area will be split into two phases. Lane reductions will be in place with limited through traffic at the intersection until work is done. Avoid the intersection if possible, at night. A construction detour route to S 3rd St will be maintained from Rainier Ave S to S 3rd Pl and Shattuck Ave S. Please follow posted signage.

4. Storm Utility work on S 2nd St

DUIP continues installation of storm utility work on S 2nd St between Morris Ave S and Shattuck Ave S. This work began work at S 2nd St and Shattuck Ave S moving east towards Morris Ave S. During construction, S 2nd St will be reduced to two lanes on the south side of the street.
