CURRENT CONSTRUCTION IN DOWNTOWN RENTON

1. Sidewalk work on S 2nd St at Williams Ave S and Wells Ave S

Our concrete subcontractor has poured the sidewalks on the southside of S 2nd St at Wells Ave S. The concrete subcontractor plans to continuing pouring new curb and gutters and sidewalk on S 2nd St.

People walking will be detoured into adjacent curbside parking and have their path distinguished by using “hurdles” and traffic cones.

After pouring a concrete panel, crews continue preparing the remaining panels for concrete by building the forms that hold the concrete.

2. Construction continues on S 2nd St and S 3rd St

We’re continuing utility work on S 2nd St and other work on S 3rd St, including installing irrigation, landscaping, finalizing the signals, and eventually repaving.

Through traffic on both S 2nd St and S 3rd St will continue to be reduced to a single-lane to avoid confusion at the all-way stops.

3. Sewer Utility Work on S 3rd St

DUIP continues installation of the new sewer main. Installation has been moving well and we’ve made good progress on the work between Whitworth Ave S and Shattuck Ave S. We completed paving and restoration work between Burnett Ave S and Morris Ave S.

4. Shattuck Ave S Intersection Work and S 3rd St Road Closure

Sewer work on S 3rd Street is progressing healthily and ahead of schedule. Through early next week, the intersection of Shattuck Ave S and S 3rd St will be closed for sewer utility work. S 3rd St from Shattuck Ave S to Rainier Ave S will also be closed as the sewer installation proceeds toward Rainier Ave S.

S 3rd Street will re-open to business and local access after construction hours. A detour to S 4th St via S 3rd Pl to Shattuck Ave S is in place to route traffic around construction. Signage for local and business access will be in place along the detour route.

Once intersection work at S 3rd St & Shattuck Ave S is complete, we will move forward with road restoration on S 3rd St between Morris Ave S and Shattuck Ave S. Paving is planned for the first week of August and will allow us to re-open access to S 3rd St between Shattuck Ave S and Burnett Ave S. Please follow posted signs and directions from flaggers for safe access.

5.  Utility Work on S 3rd St and Rainier Ave S

DUIP is wrapping up the installation of the steel casing within the box culvert and will be out of the intersection by early next week.

In a few weeks, we will return to and do night work to install the sewer main from the S 3rd St through Rainier Ave S. This work is anticipated for 3-5 nights. Anticipate “permanent” lane reductions in all directions during work hours until this phase of the work is done. Please follow posted signs and directions from flaggers for safe access.
