Hi Everyone, In May of this year, as part of utility work for the DUIP, we had to temporarily relocate the clock tower at the intersection of S 3rd St and Burnett Ave S. Due to the significant progress we’ve made with sewer utility work on S 3rd St, the clock tower will be back home to its original location! Check it out with a visit to the Farmer’s Market next Tuesday.

S 3rd STREET DETOUR

Noted street closures are daytime closures during construction hours. A minimum of one lane will be open on S 3rd St after construction hours. Please follow posted signs and directions from flaggers for safe access.

CURRENT CONSTRUCTION IN DOWNTOWN RENTON

1. Sidewalk work on S 2nd St at Williams Ave S and Wells Ave S

Now that we’ve substantially completed installing the new sidewalk on S 3rd St, we’ve started removing the sidewalk on S 2nd St to prepare for the new sidewalk at the Williams Ave S and Wells Ave S corners. We plan to detour people walking into adjacent curbside parking and have their path distinguished by using “hurdles” and traffic cones.

2. Construction continues on S 2nd St and S 3rd St

As we continue utility work on S 2nd St, through traffic will stay reduced to a single-lane to give crews the space they need to work on underground utilities.

We’ll also continue to work on S 3rd St, including installing irrigation, landscaping, finalizing the signals, and eventually repaving.

Crews remove the old sidewalk debris on S 2nd St after using a jack hammer break up the concrete slab.

During your next visit to downtown Renton take a selfie with Erasmus and enjoy the new hanging planters.

3. Stormwater Utility Work on Shattuck Ave S complete

Following completion of storm utility work on S 2nd St, we will return to Shattuck Ave S to install laterals for catch basins.

4. Sewer Utility Work on S 3rd St

DUIP continues installation of the new sewer main. Installation has been moving well and we’ve made good progress on the work between Morris Ave S and Whitworth Ave S. We are wrapping up road restoration work between Burnett Ave S and Morris Ave S on S 3rd St this week.

Crews will begin digging 10+feet down around the culvert that is located in the middle of the Rainier Ave S and S 3rd Street Intersection.

5. Utility Work on S 3rd St and Rainier Ave S

DUIP has begun the utility work at the intersection of S 3rd St and Rainier Ave S. We completed inline valve work earlier this week and have now started installation of the steel casing within the box culvert underneath the intersection. The steel casing needs to be installed prior to the sewer main crossing Rainier Ave S. This work is in west side of the intersection of Rainier Ave S and SW Sunset Blvd. Work on this phase is scheduled for two weeks. Anticipate “permanent” lane reductions in all directions until this phase of the work is done. Please follow posted signs and directions from flaggers for safe access.

UPCOMING WORK

Storm Utility work on S 2nd St In a few weeks, DUIP will be doing storm utility work on S 2nd St between Morris Ave S and Shattuck Ave S. We will begin at S 2nd St and Shattuck Ave S and move east towards Morris Ave S. During construction, S 2nd St will be reduced to two lanes on the south side of the street.
