Downtown Renton Construction: Sunny days lead the way to the farmer’s market.

Hi everyone,

With the sun in the sky and warmth on our backs, what better way to enjoy the weather than come to the Renton Farmers Market? The Renton Farmer’s Market is located on S 3rd St and Logan Ave S across the street from Piazza Renton. The City Center Parking Garage offers up to 10-hours of free parking.

For the safety of pedestrians and transit operators, vehicle access between S 2nd St and S 3rd St and Logan Ave S and Burnett Ave S is for transit vehicles only. Personal vehicle access is not permitted. Refer to the route below highlighted in yellow to navigate the downtown as work on S 3rd St continues.

Noted street closures are daytime closures during construction hours. A minimum of one lane will be open on S 3rd St after construction hours. Please follow posted signs and directions from flaggers for safe access.  CURRENT CONSTRUCTION IN DOWNTOWN RENTON

1. Sidewalk work on S 3rd St at Williams Ave S and Wells Ave S

Our concrete subcontractor has substantially completed pouring the sidewalks on the northside of S 3rd St at Williams Ave S and Wells Ave S. They’re now focusing on pouring and continuing to prepare the southside sidewalks on S 3rd St at both intersections.

Due to high temperatures forecasted for the next couple of days, road conditions may be too hot for concrete pours. High temperatures also prevent concrete from curing properly.  Concrete pours will pause early next week and continue as weather conditions improve.

Once a concrete pour is scheduled, our contractor will stop by impacted business to discuss details.

2. Utility work on S 2nd St between Main Ave S and Burnett Ave S continues

The Wells-Williams Conversion Project is continuing utility work on S 2nd St. Through traffic on S 2nd St will continue to be reduced to a single-lane to give crews the space they need to work on underground utilities.

3. Stormwater Utility Work on Shattuck Ave S

DUIP completed utility work south of S 3rd St on Shattuck Ave S with lane striping work coming up next.  We will continue final steps towards completing work between S 3rd St and S 2nd St over the next week or so. Through traffic on Shattuck Ave S will continue to be reduced to one lane both directions. Please follow posted signs and directions from flaggers for safe access.

4. Sewer Utility Work on S 3rd St

DUIP continues installation of the new sewer main. Installation has been moving well and we’ve progressed work past Smithers Ave S towards Morris Ave S…dare we say it…slightly ahead of schedule for this section. S 3rd St will be closed between Smithers Ave S and Morris Ave S. and reduced to one lane between Morris Ave S and Shattuck Ave S.

A detour to S 4th St via Shattuck Ave S and Burnett Ave S is in place to route traffic around construction. Signage for local and business access will be in place along the detour route. During non-work hours, S 3rd St will maintain a minimum of one lane of traffic throughout the project area (Burnett Ave S to Rainier Ave S). Work will continue moving west, block-by-block, towards Rainier Ave S. Road Closures on S 3rd St will move west with the construction efforts. We anticipate 2-4 weeks per block depending on the speed of construction. Because we are very deep here, the construction timing can vary greatly depending on a multitude of factors. We estimate to be able to complete anywhere from 40-80 feet of sewer pipe per day.  If all goes well, we may shift blocks sooner than anticipated.

5. Storm Utility work on S 3rd St

Storm utility work on S 3rd St east of Rainier Ave S and west of Shattuck Ave S is completed.  All lanes of S 3rd St are open between Rainier Ave S and Shattuck Ave S. S 3rd St is reduced to one lane beyond Shattuck Ave S for sewer main construction currently occurring between Burnett Ave S and Logan Ave S. Local and business access on S 3rd St will be maintained. A detour is in place routing traffic to S 4th St.

UPCOMING WORK

Beginning sometime in July, DUIP will be doing storm utility work on S 2nd St between Morris Ave S and Shattuck Ave S. We will begin on Shattuck Ave S. S 2nd St will be reduced to two lanes on the south side of the street.
