Spring Recycle Event

Recycle Day

It is spring cleaning time! Take advantage of the City of Renton Solid Waste Utility's Spring Recycle Event to recycle materials or donate items you no longer want instead of sending them to the landfill. Got tires taking up space in your garage? How about scrap metal or large appliances? Many items such as Styrofoam, reusable household goods, unusable textiles, batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, oil filters, cardboard, bulky yard waste and building materials can be dropped off free of charge. Mattress recycling fee is $15 cash. Please review the complete list of acceptable materials and important guidelines here. And don't forget to secure your load - it's the law!

Spring Recycle Event
Sat. May 13, 9am - 3pm
Renton Technical College, north parking lot
(NE 6th Pl and Monroe Ave NE)

Donate Damaged Clothing

Threadcycle

Did you know that damaged clothing, such as dirty, stained, faded, torn and ones with holes can still be donated to many thrift stores and drop boxes in the area? Even single shoes, socks, gloves and other normally paired-up items can be donated! As long as items are not wet, mildewed or contaminated with hazardous materials, they can be reused or recycled into new products. So save ALL your unwanted clothes, shoes and linens from the landfill and donate them at a participating organization's location.

  • Goodwill
  • Northwest Center
  • The Salvation Army
  • Value Village
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters Puget Sound
  • USAgain
  • SightConnection
  • TexGreen, Inc.

Unusable textiles will also be accepted at the Spring Recycle Event at Renton Technical College on May 13. Thanks for helping to conserve resources, divert textiles away from the landfill and avoid greenhouse gas emissions! Visit King County and Seattle Public Utilities' Threadcycle for more information on textile recycling and a complete list of accepted items.

Earth Day, Every Day

Earth Day

Every year, Earth Day is celebrated worldwide on April 22. First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day events are now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network to build a healthy and sustainable environment, address climate change, and protect the Earth for future generations. Check out Earth Day Network's Billion Acts of Green for ideas on doing your part:

*Plant a tree or donate to plant a tree
*Stop using disposable plastic
*Eat less meat ("Meatless Monday")
*Reduce Your Ecological Footprint
*March for Science in Seattle

While Earth Day is a great opportunity for the Earth's citizens to mobilize, take action, and create change, let's remember that we can all do something every day, not just on Earth Day, to preserve and protect the Earth for future generations.
