Ideas to Keep Students Social During Online Learning
 Our fall distance learning survey found many students to be experiencing some degree of social isolation. Here are some ideas for students to safely socialize during distance learning.
Parks and Recreation
Playgrounds, parks, trails and campgrounds are now open to the public. Many indoor facilities are also open including pools, ice rinks, tennis courts and more.

Student Service-Learning
Students are still required to fulfill service-learning hours for graduation. Here are ideas for volunteerism while safely connecting with peers.

Mental Health and Wellness
With less access to their peer support system, students may experience an increase in anxiety, depression, stress and trauma.
Professional school counselors and psychologists are available to support students during distance learning. Counselors will address emotional health and wellness with elementary students within the next two weeks.
Mental health clinicians are also available in our community schools and middle schools.

Thursday: Distance Learning Telephone Town Hall
 CEO Dr. Monica Goldson will host a Distance Learning Tele Town Hall on Thursday, Nov. 5 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. as another step toward providing families with information to help make the best decisions for their children. More Info
Charter & Specialty Programs Lottery Now Open
 Applications to our Charter & Specialty Programs Lottery for the 2021-22 school year will be accepted online through Friday, Jan. 29. This year, Charter & Specialty lotteries have been combined into one application window. The application window for Talented and Gifted (TAG) is separate and will open Monday, Jan. 4.
Need Shots? Register for a Free Immunization Clinic
 Need immunizations ahead of return to school? Students can receive free vaccinations at one of our four high school wellness centers through late November. Families must register online for an appointment.
PGCPS-TV Lessons Available Through End of Quarter
 Elementary students can view school lessons on PGCPS-TV (channels 96/Comcast and 38/Verizon). Instructional videos cover reading, math, science, social studies and electives and will be available through Thursday, Nov. 5.
Free Student Meals on Mondays and Wednesdays
Meals are free for all students through December 31 and can be picked up from schools or community delivery sites on Mondays and Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Please note that holidays may impact this schedule.

Update on Google Hangouts
Google Hangouts is disabled for student-to-student use to ensure student cyber-safety. Unlike other online instructional tools, PGCPS cannot safely monitor student use in Google Hangouts.
Program Expanded! Free K-5 Reading Tutoring
 Students in kindergarten through fifth grades can receive free virtual reading tutoring with trained tutors! Tutoring will begin mid-November and end April 2021 in one-hour afternoon sessions between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. The deadline to sign up is Wednesday, Nov. 4.

 Tune in to the 2020 Virtual Hall of Fame Gala this Friday, Nov. 6 on WJLA at 7:00 p.m. to see notable PGCPS alumni from around the world honored! Funds raised during this event will enhance student learning opportunities and expand scholarships and programming.
Last Chance to Vote: Election Day is Tomorrow!
The 2020 Presidential General Election and final day to vote is Tuesday, Nov. 3! Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. Voters may cast their ballots at any of the County's 41 vote centers. Find your nearest vote center here.
