Answers to common questions, distance learning feature

We're listening! Answers to your commonly asked questions on how distance learning will work for the 2020-2021 SY.

Q. What if my student misses a live "real time" lesson? Can we later access a recorded version?

A. We are highly encouraging teachers to record lessons. All students will have access to instructional materials for use at home during distance learning.

Q. Should my family still plan to purchase school supplies?

A. Yes. Supply lists are being finalized and will be shared with parents and guardians from their child's school in the coming weeks.

Q. Will I be able to pick up meals from my child's school?

A. Yes. All schools will offer multi-day, pre-packaged breakfast and lunch on Mondays and Thursdays. Students who are not eligible for free and reduced-priced meals will have to pay for breakfast and lunch, preferably through their student account. Families can apply online for free and reduced-price meals.

In a column published in The Hill, CEO Dr. Monica Goldson wrote: "We did not come to our reopening decision lightly. We weighed every option from returning fulltime to implementing a hybrid schedule; we surveyed the community and found more than 45 percent of families — and more than 50 percent of educators and administrators — preferred to continue the distance learning model. In the end, we made the clear choice."
