CEO Employee Scholarships Available at Loyola

Employees may apply for scholarships at Loyola University Maryland through Wednesday, July 15 for full-tuition, half-tuition and one semester grants. Three full-tuition, three half-tuition and 20 semester Master of Arts in Teaching grants will be awarded from the CEO's Scholarship Program. Applicants may choose from nine master's and certificate program options. Recipients will be announced Monday, Aug. 10. Additionally, all employees are eligible for a 15 percent tuition discount on all Loyola School of Education cohort programs. For more information, visit www.loyola.edu/pgcps.

Dr. Gwendolyn Mason, Chief of Special Education and Student Services, has been nominated for the LifeChanger of the Year award. The LifeChanger of the Year award honors retiring school district employees. Dr. Mason is retiring at the end of the month after serving approximately 32,000 students with disabilities and their families during her 40-year career. View Dr. Mason's profile page.

Dr. Henry A. Wise, Jr. High School business teacher Tonya Manago was named the 2020 Maryland Future Business Leader of America Outstanding Local Advisor of the Year in recognition of her contributions to FBLA at the local, state and national level. 


James McHenry Elementary School first grade teacher Donna Gregg commended the Technology Training Team (T3) for their excellent training during distance learning. "They have been very patient with employees and very informative," she said.

Looking for Aspiring School Leaders!

The Aspiring Leaders Program for Student Success (ALPSS) is accepting applications through Friday, June 26.

Hosted by the Office of Talent Development, this program works to develop and prepare aspiring principals to lead schools to excellence. ALPSS is designed specifically for current assistant principals who have a strong desire to move into a principalship. For more information, contact Dr. Melissa Ellis at 301-749-5238, ext. 46104 on Mondays or Wednesdays.


Resources for Addressing Race and Trauma

The National Child Traumatic Stress Network has developed resources for educators on addressing race and trauma. Additional reading and viewing resources are available through the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System, Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture and more to guide discussions about race, diversity, inclusion and social equity.

ICYMI: In Case You Missed It

Families First Coronavirus Response Act

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act requires certain employers to provide their employees with paid sick leave and expanded family and medical leave for specified reasons related to COVID-19. These provisions will apply from Wednesday, April 1 through Thursday, December 31. Read more.


PGCPS Transportation Academy

The Transportation Academy is looking for a few good men and women! This opportunity can lead to advancement in the field of pupil transportation. 

Candidates must meet all of the following eligibility criteria:

  • Verified members in AFSCME Local 2250 for the 2019-20 school year
  • Minimum of five consecutive years employed by the PGCPS Department of Transportation
  • Valid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) or transportation-related leadership experience will be considered.
