Distance Learning Begins Tuesday, April 14

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, online instruction for students will begin Tuesday, April 14. Although daily learning will not be equivalent to a six-hour day, key aspects of the classroom experience will be maintained: collaboration with peers, daily lessons and experimentation with individualized and innovative techniques. Drive-up WiFi at Select Schools

Need Internet access for your child to complete schoolwork or homework? Drive-up wifi access points at several schools will be available starting Tuesday, April 14 for anyone with a PGCPS email account to log on from the school parking lot or within close proximity to the school.

Parents and guardians may request a new username and password for students who have forgotten their PGCPS email log-in info. Email t3@pgcps.org with student name, ID number, birth date, school and grade level to request new log-in credentials.

Free Home Internet Access Available

Families new to Comcast Internet Essentials may be eligible for two months of free Internet service if they live in an area where the service is available, qualify for public assistance and have not subscribed to Comcast Internet within the last 90 days. Apply online or call 1-855-8-INTERNET (1-855-846-8376). 

Update for Parents/Guardians of Students with IEPs and Section 504 Plans

Special education teachers and service providers were trained on delivering and documenting special education services given the new distance learning structure.

At-a-Glance: Elementary School Distance Learning

Each school will host elective courses on Fridays. Elective courses include art, physical education, world languages, music and health.

Each school will host elective courses on a rotating schedule on Fridays. Elective courses include art, physical education, music and health. 

Student Meal Pick-Ups Now Twice Weekly

Meal pick-up will occur twice a week between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. There will be no meal service on Monday, April 13 due to spring break. Service will resume Tuesday, April 14.

Plug In: 24/7 Digital Library!

The Prince George's County Memorial Library System (PGCMLS) is available 24/7 online with PGCMLS Digital Suite, Creative Suite, and more than 85 online resources including eBooks, audiobooks, music, movies, TV, and educational resources. Students have access to PGCMLS resources using their 9-digit student ID number.

School Registrations for 2020-2021 School Year

Due to COVID-19 stay-at-home orders and continued school building closures, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten registration is postponed until students, staff, and the community can safely return to buildings. We will continue to monitor the status of schools and provide updates accordingly. Transitional and lottery program registration is also on hold.

Parks and Rec Grab-n-Go Meals for Students

The Department of Parks and Recreation is offering free grab-and-go meals Monday through Friday from 12 noon to 2 pm on a first-come, first-served basis for children under the age of 18. On Fridays, young people will be able to take 3 bags for food for the weekend. This program is open all children. Locations: Marlow Heights Community Center, Oakcrest Community Center in Capitol Heights and Glenarden Community Center.

Apply for a LEARN College Scholarship

Eligible high school seniors may apply for a Landover Educational Athletic Recreational Nonprofit (LEARN) college scholarship, supporting youth residing in the vicinity of FedEx Field stadium. Applications are due by Saturday, April 25. Apply

Maryland Public Television to Offer 'At-Home Learning'

During the COVID-19 emergency, Maryland Public Television is changing its weekday programming to support students, families and teachers. The new At-Home Learning program schedule debuts Monday, April 6, airing from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

The application deadline for Student Member of the Board of Education has been extended to Tuesday, April 14! Current high school sophomores and juniors may apply.
