COVID-19 Update: Schools Closed Thru March 27

In line with the state mandate to slow the spread of COVID-19, all schools will be closed from Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 27. All public school buildings and school buses will be cleaned and disinfected. There will be no school-sponsored field trips, extracurricular/athletic events or before/after care during this time. We have also suspended outside facility use until further notice.

PGCPS will operate under Code Green. All 12-month employees must report to work, but telework is available to eligible employees. Supervisors will distribute Administrative Policy 4165 to all eligible employees and the forms must be submitted by Monday, March 16 at noon.

Teachers distributed school assignments today to ensure continuity of learning during the closure. We have asked our educators to be accessible to students by email in case they have any questions related to assignments. In addition, enrichment activity packets will be available online on the PGCPS website by Wednesday, March 18 for grades Pre-K through 12.

Ten- and 11-month employees will be paid during the two-week closure. All 11-month employees should check email daily to respond to parent, student and staff concerns and inquiries.

Long-term substitutes as of Friday, March 13 will continue to be paid during the two-week closure. All temporary employees will be paid over the two-week time closure for their scheduled hours to be worked. Other substitutes will not be paid during this two-week time period.

Regarding extension of the third-quarter grading period, a determination will be made as we get closer to returning to school on Monday, March 30.

Classes are set to resume for students on Monday, March 30. Teacher and staff can find frequently asked questions on the forthcoming COVID-19 school closings here. We will provide regular updates throughout the closing and new information as soon as it is available on our website, by email and text and on social media.
