#Blueprint4MD: PGCPS Advocates for Better Educational Opportunities

CEO Dr. Monica Goldson and Board of Education Chair Dr. Alvin Thornton testified before the Prince George’s County House Delegation about the school system's progress and need for more equitable school funding. They were joined by DuVal High School senior Jeremy Kiggundu and High Point High School senior Vanessa Velas Romero, who shared details about their experiences and aspirations. The Blueprint for Maryland, based on the Kirwan Commission's recommendations, would provide much-needed funding for higher teacher salaries, Career and Technical Education, wraparound services for high-needs schools and early childhood education.


New Partnership to Focus on K–12 Improvement

PGCPS has teamed up with the University of Maryland College of Education for a new partnership to create joint faculty appointments, advance teacher preparation programs and and prioritize using evidence-based approaches to solving challenges such as the achievement gap and absenteeism.


2020-2021 Principal Selection Process Now Open

The 2020-21 Principal Selection Process is now open. Interested candidates should visit www.pgcps.org/careers for more information and to submit an application. The deadline to apply is Friday, Feb. 28.


Go Red for a Healthy Heart — Feb. 7

Port Towns Elementary School Media/Technology Paraprofessional Charles Richards has a ready smile for everyone in the school, says Assistant Principal Dara D. Hurley, adding he eagerly volunteers to help with student activities, never complains and sets a positive example.
