A Note on Student Attendance, Absence and Truancy


When it comes to attendance: every day counts! Did you know just two days out of school a month (about 18 days a year) can add up to 10 percent of the school year missed? Parent and guardians should take note of changes to PGCPS attendance policies and tips on ways to keep absences at minimum.

2019-20 School Year Calendar Changes


The Prince George’s County Board of Education approved the following updates to the 2019-2020 school calendar. 

  • Schools will be closed for students Friday, Sept. 27 for professional development (previously early dismissal)
  • Schools + offices closed election day, April 28, 2020
  • Last day for students: June 17, 2020 (Dates are subject to change due to emergency closings.)

It's Monday night football, Prince George’s County style! PG 13, a series taking you on and off the field with teams, coaches, players, fans and families, will soon return for season three! Central HS Awarded Top French Immersion Accreditation


The Central High School French immersion program was awarded the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs' prestigious Label FrancEducation, making it the first high school in Maryland to receive this seal of excellence recognizing high quality French bilingual teaching. Certification for the Maya Angelou and Dora Kennedy French Immersion programs was renewed for three years.
