Greetings District 2 constituents,
It is a great day in Prince George's County Public Schools! At the beginning of the 2017-2018 School Year, the Health and Wellness Administrative Procedure (AP) for Prince George's County Public Schools was implemented to recommend daily recess of at least 30 minutes per day, with a minimum of 20 minutes allocated for our students. The implementation of this AP is taking shape. To safeguard this new practice, the members of the Policy, Legal and Legislative Committee of the Board of Education requested a follow-up message be sent to all Administrators emphasizing the prohibition of withholding recess as punishment.
It is the policy of the Board of Education to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for all students and to ensure that students receive consistent information and education regarding proper nutrition, increased physical activity, and the benefits of healthy lifestyle choices throughout the school, classroom, and cafeteria.
Thank you for the input many of you have provided to help us achieve this goal. Kindly see the AP below for your reference.
Working for you,
Lupi Quinteros-Grady, District 2
School Board Member
