Greetings District 2 Constituents,

On behalf of School Board Member Lupi Quinteros-Grady and Senator Paul Pinsky, you are invited to attend a briefing on the work of The Commission on Innovation and Excellence in Education ("Commission"), also referred to as the "Kirwan Commission,” on January 11, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at Roosevelt High School – auditorium.

Named for the Chair of the Commission, William "Brit" Kirwan, this Commission was created by legislation in 2016. It brings together representatives from across the State to review the findings of the Study of Adequacy of Funding for Education in Maryland, hear from national experts on world class education systems, and make recommendations for improving education in Maryland through funding, policies, and resources that will prepare Maryland students "to meet the challenges of a changing global economy, to meet the State’s workforce needs, to be prepared for postsecondary education and the workforce, and to be successful citizens in the 21st century." For more information about the Commission kindly see the attached information sheet.

Senator Paul Pinsky serves as the Maryland Senate Education Subcommittee Chair and is also a member of the “Kirwan Commission”. Together we are hosting this very important information session so you can learn how the findings of this commission will benefit our schools for years to come.

Please RSVP your attendance by Monday, January 8, 2018 to Amber.Tate@pgcps.org.

Thank you in advance for your attention to this important matter. Together Each Achieves More (T.E.A.M.)

Happy Holidays!
