PFAD - Boston

The annual Principal for a Day event on Tuesday drew more than 100 partners to schools throughout the county. Board of Education Vice Chair Carolyn M. Boston visited a Capitol Heights Elementary classroom as she shadowed Principal Nina Lattimore. 


Volunteers Needed Saturday for Family Institute

Volunteer opportunities are still available for the 2nd Annual Family Institute Conference, "Ignite SPARKS for Student Success," on Nov. 18 at Northwestern High School from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sign up today! It's not too late to register for the conference! Educator/author Ron Clark, founder of Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, will give the keynote speech. Visit the Family Institute conference webpage for more details.


Speak Up: Budget and Calendar Surveys

Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kevin Maxwell will present the proposed fiscal year 2019 operating budget on Thursday, Dec. 14. Visit our online forum to share your thoughts on budget priorities and various topics, including:

The Calendar Committee is working to develop a calendar that fits within Gov. Hogan's mandated post-Labor Day start date and last day for students (June 15). Please click here to open the employee survey. Click the two links at the top of the survey to view both calendar versions before submitting your input.


Holiday Harvest Giving Together Campaign

In this season of thanksgiving, join the PGCPS Holiday Harvest campaign as part of our fall Giving Together service initiative.

The Holiday Harvest campaign will support three community organizations: United Way of the National Capital Area Annual Campaign, Capital Area Food Bank and the Excellence in Education Foundation for PGCPS. Information was sent to all employees earlier this week.

Reminder: On Nov. 17, the Excellence in Education Foundation for PGCPS will take orders for its HoneyBaked Ham Holiday Fundraiser in the Sasscer Administration Building lobby from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The foundation will receive 20 percent of each purchase. Orders will be available for pickup Nov. 20 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Contact Darlene House at darlene.houze@pgcps.org for more information. Thank you for your support!

Spotlight: Brandon Felder and the Largo HS Choir

Make a joyful noise with the Largo High School Choir this season! Their new 15-track CD, "Rejoice! A Celebration of Music," is on sale now. The choir is under the direction of Brandon Felder, chairman of the Largo Performing Arts Department. 

Purchase the CD from Felder at Largo High, online, and iTunes, Amazon and Google Play. Catch the choir in concert with neighboring schools on Dec. 17 at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Proceeds from the CD sales will be go towards the Largo Music Department and the choir's New Robes Attire Project. 

Professional Development Opportunities 

Earn a College Degree from Walden University

Employees can receive a 10 percent tuition discount on a Walden University degree program. Plus, eligible new students who start by Nov. 27 may be eligible for grants, including:                                                             

  • $5,000 Grant for all Bachelor degree programs (when beginning classes on Nov. 27, with 45 or more transfer of credits as of the seventh day of the first term.) 
  • $2,000 Grant for all Bachelor degree programs (when beginning classes on Nov.  27, with less than 45 transfer of credits as of the seventh day of the first term.) 
  • $1,000 - $5,000 grants available for many other programs.
