TriMet News: Tilikum Crossing construction time lapse video

Tilikum Crossing, Bridge of the People

Construction on the unique bridge began more than 3 years ago, but you can watch its transformation in 1 minute 36 seconds. The video starts with pre-construction staging on the banks of the Willamette River on May 18, 2011 with bridge construction beginning on July 1, 2011. As of last Wednesday, July 23, 2014, you can see the 1162 days of construction in this time lapse video, shot from Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in the South Waterfront area. Tilikum Crossing is the first bridge to be built over the Willamette River in Portland in more than 40 years. It’s the first of its kind multi-modal bridge in the U.S. that will carry MAX light rail and streetcar trains, buses, bicyclists and pedestrians, but no private vehicles. It’s also the first cable-stayed bridge for the region and extends 1,720 feet (.326 miles) over the river. The bridge and the entire Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail Transit Project opens on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015.  Take a look!
