See what we've been up to at TriMet!
Without additional funding, TriMet may be forced to eliminate as many as 34 bus lines starting in 2027.
Lawmakers in Salem want to pass a major transportation funding package during the current legislative session. But the amount of funding currently proposed for public transit is not enough to avoid service cuts that will leave tens of thousands of Oregonians stranded without the transportation they depend on.
You can help. Contact your legislator. The Oregon Transit Association is calling for a phased increase of 0.4% over eight years in the employee payroll tax that funds transit. Find your legislators here.
TriMet is one of our region’s most effective tools to promote clean air and livability. Our buses and trains replace tens of millions of car trips each year. That helps to reduce traffic and gridlock, conserve gas and energy, and lower harmful emissions.
We all have a part to play in being good stewards of the world we share. This Earth Month, you can do your part — please urge your state legislators to support transit service!
MAX improvements will start Sunday, April 27, along a portion of the MAX Blue Line. The East Burnside MAX Improvements Project will improve system reliability and provide a smoother ride between the Gateway/NE 99th Ave Transit Center and the Cleveland Ave MAX Station.
Plan your trip now at trimet.org and allow for extra travel time while we make MAX better! Be sure to set your travel date from April 27 to May 10 to see how track closures may affect your trip.
In a separate project, construction is underway on the NE 82nd Ave MAX Station. We’re rebuilding much of this station to improve safety, accessibility and the overall rider experience. While riders may notice construction, there will be no disruption to MAX service at NE 82nd Ave during this phase of the work.
TriMet’s 82nd Avenue Transit Project will bring Frequent Express bus service to one of our region’s busiest travel corridors. Just as TriMet FX® has sped up buses along Division Street, we’re looking at ways to reduce delays for riders on 82nd.
We’re holding an online open house through Sunday, April 27. Share your thoughts on the transit-priority tools we’re considering to move buses safely around traffic! Visit trimet.org/82nd to learn more and leave your feedback.
TriMet Bus Operator Joseph Wiggins made headlines last year after his bus became an impromptu ambulance. After seeing one of his riders was in distress, Joe contacted our Operations Command Center and worked with first responders when they arrived to help. When he learned there was no ambulance available, Joe didn’t hesitate to drive the rider to the hospital in his bus.
The Royal Rosarians recently honored our operator at their Newsmakers of the Year event. Joe also appeared on KOIN 6 News AM Extra to tell his story and explain why transit operators are everyday heroes!
TriMet’s maintenance team is growing! We’re looking for bus mechanics, light rail vehicle technicians and more. Some maintenance positions come with a $7,500 hiring bonus! Learn more at trimet.org/careers.
An entry-level job in maintenance can lead to a long, fulfilling career — as it has for Joe Ruffin, an LRV technician who has worked for TriMet for 30 years. Check out Joe’s story on our YouTube channel.
Our work crews have been busy! Since last June, we’ve installed new digital displays at 24 MAX stations and transit centers. That means nearly all of our MAX stations now have displays that show upcoming arrival times for trains and buses, updated in real time! We’ve also been upgrading older displays so they are easier to read and maintain. In addition to these convenient displays, you can find arrival info and track your vehicle at trimet.org.
Riding TriMet? We want to hear from you! Keep an eye out for new QR codes posted at select stops and stations, as well as on board some of our buses and MAX trains. Each QR code is a link to an online survey where you can tell us about your ride and report any issues you see on the system. You can also call or text 503-238-7433 (RIDE), email hello@trimet.org, and chat online with our live, local customer support team at trimet.org/chat. Your feedback helps us make TriMet better!
It takes a lot of elbow grease to keep our buses, trains and facilities fresh and clean! A new video puts a well-deserved spotlight on our hardworking cleaners.
Cleaners wait for our vehicles at the end of the line to tidy up. We also have overnight cleaners who can give them extra attention, getting them ready for the next service day. Additionally, we have teams who can hop on board vehicles as needed while they’re in service, cleaning up spills and addressing other immediate needs. And our TriMet Clean Team rotates through MAX stations throughout our service area — pressure-washing, painting, picking up litter and more.
We set new records with our cleaning in 2024, with 36,982 activities at the end of all MAX lines and 3,170 pressure-washes at stations. We’re on track for another record-setting year in 2025!
The TriMet Board of Directors will hold a strategy session and board retreat on Wednesday, April 30. The TriMet Board’s next regular business meeting is on Wednesday, May 28.

The Transit Equity Advisory Committee will hold its next meeting from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 10.
