See what we've been up to at TriMet!
The Portland Timbers’ 2025 season is underway! There’s no better way to see a game and cheer on our team than by taking TriMet. If you have a ticket to a Timbers game, a Thorns game or a concert at Providence Park, you have a ticket to ride TriMet.
For up to three hours before and after each game or concert at Providence Park, in 2025 and 2026, you can display your digital ticket to the event as your proof of fare on any TriMet bus, MAX and LIFT. Coupled with free parking for transit users at our Park & Ride locations, it’s an incredible savings!
There’s no such thing as a “snow day” for TriMet! While many people chose to delay their travel Feb. 13-14 due to snow and sleet, TriMet continued to provide bus and train service. We had to work around weather impacts, including some mechanical issues that affected service. Thanks to our amazing maintenance team, operators and staff behind the scenes, we were able to operate through the winter weather with limited disruptions.
Thank you to our riders for their patience and understanding; our employees for stepping up to tackle this challenge; and our local, state and federal partners who worked together with TriMet before, during and after the storm.
TriMet was honored to join Grammy-nominated musician Aaron Nigel Smith and the students of Rosa Parks Elementary School for a special event celebrating the life and legacy of civil rights hero Rosa Parks.
Students performed “We Ride With Rosa,” a Smith original song, and sang “Happy Birthday” on what would have been Parks’ 112th birthday. We also handed out T-shirts and showed off our special tribute bus to Rosa Parks.
As has become an annual tradition for TriMet, we waived all fare on Feb. 4 in honor of Rosa Parks’ birthday. She believed transit was for everyone — and so do we!
Coming soon: TriMet bus improvements that benefit commuters! Workers will be able to take the improved Line 6-Martin Luther King Jr Blvd to jobs at Amazon along North Schmeer Road, as well as the improved Line 47-Main/Evergreen to jobs at Intel’s Ronler Acres campus in Hillsboro. We’re also:
- Adding buses on several other lines, in response to rider feedback
- Adjusting schedules to improve connections and reliability
- Reorganizing stops at some locations to accommodate more buses
These latest service improvements take effect March 2. See you on board!
Riders may have noticed something new at several transit centers and MAX stations. TriMet is installing new transit fare card machines. Rather than disposable paper tickets, these machines dispense Hop Fastpass® cards, which are reusable.
Add more money onto your card at the machine or via the Hop app. Be sure to tap your card on the green Hop readers at each station or on buses and Portland Streetcar to pay your fare! We plan to install more of these new Hop machines at additional MAX stations in the coming weeks, replacing ticket machines that are more than 30 years old. Simultaneously, we’re replacing old fareboxes on board our buses with newer models.
In 2024, TriMet introduced several new bus lines as part of our Forward Together service concept. Our most popular so far has been Line 40-Tacoma/Swan Island. This line provides a reliable connection between Sellwood, South Waterfront, Downtown Portland, Rose Quarter, Swan Island and other Portland neighborhoods.
We worked with community members to craft a new Line 40 that meets their needs. Check out this video to see how riders and residents are responding to the new bus line. Your input helps us decide where and how to add service! Learn more at trimet.org/forward.
Did you miss TriMet’s hiring event on Feb. 19? We welcomed more than 300 jobseekers for our first big hiring event of 2025. Don’t worry, though — it won’t be our last! TriMet is hiring bus operators, mechanics and more as we work to add and improve service.
You can always check out our list of available jobs at trimet.org/careers! Learn more and apply online. We’ll also share information about any upcoming hiring events on our website. Many positions come with a $7,500 hiring bonus! We offer great benefits, competitive pay and opportunities for advancement. No wonder Forbes Magazine ranks TriMet as the best Oregon-based employer!
TriMet isn’t only a great place to work, it’s a great place for students to pick up professional experience and valuable job skills! We’re hiring full-time interns for summer 2025. These are paid positions that give interns an opportunity to work alongside transportation professionals and contribute to TriMet’s mission. Check out this video of what David Motorca was able to accomplish as an intern last year!
Applicants for TriMet internships should be current or incoming college juniors or seniors, graduate students, or recent graduates who completed a degree in a relevant discipline within the past 12 months. Internships are available in a variety of fields across TriMet. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, so don’t delay! Learn more and apply online at trimet.org/interns.
