See what we've been up to at TriMet!
Civil rights activist Rosa Parks changed the world when she refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery, Alabama bus in 1955. TriMet honors Parks every year on her birthday by not collecting fares on our trains and buses.
The tradition continues on Tuesday, Feb. 4, as our partners at C-TRAN and Portland Streetcar join TriMet in this celebration of the woman whose heroic acts advanced racial equality by helping to end segregation on public transit.
TriMet is working closely with our law enforcement partners as they enforce Oregon’s new drug-free transit law. The new law took effect Jan. 1. It makes drug use on transit vehicles a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in prison. While drug possession is already a misdemeanor crime in public places, including on TriMet, this law stiffens the potential penalties for using drugs on board. Smoking of any kind has always been banned onboard TriMet buses and trains. You can report violations to our Security Operations Center. Call or text 503-238-7433 (RIDE).
The first of our next-generation MAX trains officially entered service this month. The MAX Type 6 is our most advanced light rail vehicle yet! The shiny new trains have our blue and orange color scheme on the outside. Inside, you’ll notice new destination signs, better lighting and an improved climate control system.
We’ll be rolling out more Type 6 trains in the months ahead. Here’s a trick to knowing you’re on one: It will have a three-digit vehicle number beginning with 6!
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to work for TriMet, Feb. 19 is your lucky day. We’re holding a hiring event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Portland at the Oregon Convention Center. All are welcome to come out, ask questions and apply for open positions. You could even land an interview right then and there!
TriMet offers a $7,500 hiring bonus for many positions. In 2024, Forbes Magazine named TriMet the #1 Oregon-based employer in the state! Bus operator Jim Zinn — a dad of four — shared why TriMet is the right fit for his family, in this heartwarming video.
TriMet is bringing Frequent Express service to 82nd Avenue! plans for the 82nd Avenue Transit Project are taking shape, and we want to hear from you! What do you think about the proposed 10-mile route and station locations between Clackamas Town Center and Northeast Portland’s Cully neighborhood?
Now is the time to share your feedback. Visit trimet.org/82nd to learn more. We plan to begin construction of the new line in 2027, with faster, high-capacity, TriMet FX® bus service opening to riders in 2029.
We were honored to join our partners to break ground on hollywoodHUB, a housing development led by BRIDGE Housing with TriMet’s support. TriMet is committed to transit-oriented development, reducing residents’ dependence on personal vehicles and making transit more accessible.
hollywoodHUB will bring more affordable housing to the Hollywood District, just steps from the Hollywood/NE 42nd Ave MAX Station. We recently opened a new and permanent ramp and stairs connecting the MAX station to a pathway leading to Northeast Halsey Street. This ramp and stairs replaced a temporary structure that had been in place for about a year.
TriMet’s cleaning efforts over the past year are unprecedented! We’re answering the call from riders who say they want a cleaner, more inviting transit system. Our “Clean Team” and other maintenance service workers have been power-washing, picking up trash and painting at MAX stations and facilities across our service area.
We shared a snippet this month on social media showing how we’re tackling vandalism head-on. You can do your part by reporting vandalism and unwanted behavior to our Security Operations Center at 503-238-7433 (RIDE).
If you have a credit or debit card with a chip, you can pay your fare in a split-second on TriMet. Green Hop readers at TriMet stations and on buses, as well as the Portland Streetcar, support contactless payment for Adult fare. Just tap to pay — that’s it! Check out this new how-to video!
