Boosting wages, adding benefits for union workers

Great news for our nearly 2,800 union employees and those yet to join our team! TriMet and the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 757 have a new Working & Wage Agreement

 What’s new?

  • 13.64% wage increase over four years (with a 4% increase starting Dec. 1, 2024)
  • Two increases in employer 401(a) contribution (with total agency contribution of 10% by Dec. 2027)
  • $5,250 annual tuition reimbursement
  • $150 monthly childcare subsidy
  • Added pay for some overnight work and much more!

Riders will see the benefits too as the new contract will help support more regular cleaning at TriMet facilities and fewer canceled trips.

IBR MAX on Red Line

Planning for a new I-5 Bridge

The Interstate Bridge Replacement Program has published its Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS). The program includes light rail, bus service and space for pedestrians and cyclists.

The Draft SEIS details the program’s potential benefits and impacts on transportation, the environment and our community. You can review the document and provide feedback now through November 18.

MAX Downtown

Staying safe around trains

The last week of September marks See Tracks? Think TrainⓇ week. Formerly Rail Safety Week, it serves as a simple but potentially life-saving reminder about staying safe around trains. Just take a look at these close calls our MAX trains had with cars and pedestrians, and check our six tips for rail safety.

Keeping public drug use off transit

A change in Oregon drug law gives local law enforcement the tools to address public drug use. TriMet is educating our riders about the change and our rules for riding that prohibit smoking of any kind on TriMet. We encourage riders who see someone with illegal drugs or any other non-urgent security concerns while using our transit system to report it by calling or texting our 24-hour security hotline at 503-238-7433 (RIDE).  Thank you for helping us keep public transit safe and welcoming.

Sam and Anna Community Warehouse LiFT donation

Giving local nonprofit a LIFT

Community Warehouse is now the proud owner of two former TriMet LIFT paratransit buses! TriMet General Manager handed over the keys during a ribbon cutting at the organization’s new westside furniture bank in Tigard.

The buses have reached the end of the road for our purpose of providing door-to-door paratransit service. But they have miles and miles still to give helping Community Warehouse—a partner who shares TriMet’s goals of connecting people to opportunities!

Al Gore at MAX Grand Opening

Did you know? Celebrating a month of MAX anniversaries

In late August, we celebrated the opening of the largest expansion of MAX light rail in nearly a decade. The MAX Red Line now provides more service in Washington County and a one-seat ride between our Hillsboro Airport Station and PDX. But did you know that historically, September has been MAX’s big month?

The first ever MAX line opened Sept. 5, 1986. It originally ran between Downtown Portland and Gresham until Sept. 12, 1998, when then Vice President Al Gore helped us celebrate the extension of the MAX Blue Line west to Hillsboro. And on September 10, 2001, the original MAX Red Line opened. See which other MAX lines share a September birthday!
