Summer in TriMet Land 😎

😭 Goodbye 116 πŸ₯Ί

Light rail vehicle 116 has been in service for nearly 40 years!

We're decommissioning it and the other first generation MAX trains to make room for our new Type 6s, which should be in service later this summer.Β

The "retirement" process involves our mechanics first removing parts from the trains’ HVAC systems, then the wheel trucks, gearbox oil, hydraulic fluid, batteries and other components that can't be recycled.

Then, they're taken to a local recycling facility where they're broken down and turned into metal.

We're thinking of ways that we can bring you along to say goodbye to the Type 1s. Stay tunedβ€”we'll keep you updated on future events πŸ—“οΈΒ

🧼 The Clean Team is on Track(s) πŸ›€οΈ

Did you know that our cleaners remove 1,200 pounds of trash from the MAX train tracks every month? 😱

Clear tracks = MAX trains that run smoothly for our riders.Β

Watch this video to see more:

In addition to that work, we were part of a multi-agency effort to remove trash and graffiti along a five-mile stretch of I-84.

Thanks to our partners at ODOT, PBOT, UPRR, Multnomah County, Oregon Metro and Governor Tina Kotek.

πŸ‘‰ To report a non-urgent concern, including litter, slipping hazards or graffiti, call or text 503-238-RIDE (7433).

🐣 The Interns 🐣

Our new batch of summer interns is here! YAY!

Last week, the interns navigated our transit system for a scavenger hunt that took them all over the city. All while learning about different transit options 🚌🚊

In our intern program, they're learning about transit-oriented development, engineering, service planning, customer service and more!

Want to intern with us? We'll share any news of open applications in the spring.

MAX operator driving a Type 6 train

Ride along as we test this MAX Type 6 on the MAX Blue Line! 🚈

We’re putting 5,000 miles on this train to β€œburn it in” on the system before it goes into service.

Why did the train break up with its partner?

Because it had too much baggage and needed some space! πŸš‚πŸ˜„

(ChatGPT wrote that for me πŸ’€)
