Correction: Board to vote on fare increase in May; we’re hiring interns (and more!); looking ahead to a new FX--Frequent Express–line!

Please note: The TriMet on the Move newsletter that was sent to subscribers on April 27 included an incorrect date for an upcoming SOLVE event. The event will take place on Saturday, April 29. We regret the error.

Better Red April 2023 construction

Building a Better Red

The latest phase of construction of our A Better Red MAX Extension and Reliability Improvements Project near the Gateway Transit Center is on schedule. We are set to reopen the closed section of the MAX system between the Gateway Transit Center and NE 7th Ave on Sunday, May 7, after track work and a number of other upgrades along that stretch.

Coming vote on fare increase

The TriMet Board of Directors will vote on a proposed fare increase on Wednesday, May 24. If the proposal is approved, the cost of an Adult 2 ½-hour ticket and LIFT single ride ticket will increase 30 cents on Jan. 1, 2024, and Honored Citizen and Youth 2 ½-hour tickets will increase by 15 cents.

The proposal will not change monthly and annual fares and fare caps. That means people who ride often and use our Hop Fastpass™ will not see a fare increase.

FX bus stopped on Division at station with rider boarding

Temporarily pausing transit signal priority

Just how fast is TriMet FX™? Initial data shows bus riders on FX2-Division are getting as much as eight minutes back in their day, when they travel along Division Street!

We’re working with the Portland Bureau of Transportation to do more testing of the special signals that help speed up FX buses. As a result, FX2-Division riders may experience minor delays when traveling between Sunday, May 14 through Saturday, May 20. We appreciate your patience!

82nd ave line 72 persepective

Weighing in on 82nd Avenue

There’s no denying that 82nd Avenue is a workhorse in our community. The “82nd Avenue of Roses” is also home to our highest ridership bus line, Line 72-82nd Ave/Killingsworth. TriMet, Metro and partners from Portland to Clackamas County are working together to take an in-depth look at 82nd for everyone who uses the bus line.

One option could be an upgrade to Line 72 to Frequent Express, similar to our FX2-Division bus line. What do you think? How could a new FX line on 82nd benefit you? Learn more and take part in current surveys at 82ndave.info.

Westside MAX Boreregard Washington Park tunnel boring

Did you know? Washington Park MAX Station

Did you know that TriMet began direct MAX service to Washington Park in 1998, with the opening of the Westside MAX? It took six years and required tunneling through the west hills--twice! Now, sitting 260 feet below ground, the Washington Park MAX station stands out as the nation’s deepest light rail platform and the only underground station in our 60-mile light rail system.

Since the sun and warm temps have returned, it is a great time to take MAX to Washington Park. Check out the Oregon Zoo, walk through the World Forestry Center Discovery Museum, take the park's free shuttle to explore the Japanese Garden, and so much more!
