See what we've been up to at TriMet!
Construction of A Better Red, TriMet’s MAX Red Line extension and reliability improvements project, will impact some MAX service and I-84 traffic this fall.
From Nov. 12-19, MAX Blue Line will be disrupted between Orenco/NW 231st Ave and Hatfield Government Center while crews update track and switches. This work will prepare the area for the extension of MAX Red Line 10 more stations west in 2024. Also, work continues on a new light rail bridge over I-84 near the Gateway Transit Center and will require a closure of the highway near the I-205 junction on Saturday, Dec. 3.
The upcoming construction comes on the heels of new milestones on the project. During a weekend shutdown of the MAX Red Line Sept. 22-23, crews set girders in place for one of the new light rail bridges.
Have you weighed in on Forward Together?
Forward Together is a concept to grow and adapt our transit service to changes in the way people travel coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s the most sweeping review of our transit system — ever!
Take a look, and let us know what you think. Visit trimet.org/forward to complete the survey by October 31. It’s available in English and six translations.
Our hiring efforts are paying off with new operators joining our team and upcoming training classes filling up fast! Now a pay increase is on the horizon for operators and all TriMet employees who are represented by ATU 757.
Union members will see a 7.5% pay bump starting December 1 under our two-year contract extension agreement. That increase boosts starting pay for new operators to $27.13 per hour. That’s in addition to our $7,500 operator hiring bonus. Know someone looking to make a positive career move? Send them to trimet.org/careers!
We’re proposing changes to the TriMet Code—our rules for riding— to help keep riders and employees safe. If approved by the TriMet Board in December, more types of offenses could result in long-term exclusions, anywhere from six months to a lifetime ban. We’re talking behavior-based conduct only, not fare evasion. Learn more.
The Rose Lanes on Burnside Street are blooming! PBOT has started working on a project that will help riders on TriMet bus lines 12, 19 and 20 reach their destinations faster!
The E Burnside Rose Lane Project will expand existing transit improvements on Burnside. It includes a new bus and right-turn only lane between Southeast MLK Jr. Boulevard and 12th Avenue. The work is expected to be completed next year.
For the past several years, TriMet has celebrated the rich cultural diversity of the communities we serve with specially designed buses. Each reflects monthly observances of history and heritage.
Check out the art for our Hispanic Heritage Month bus (above), and look for it traveling throughout the community for the next year.
New for 2023, we’re adding a National Disability Pride month bus, and we’re opening up our design process to all local artists! Submit your ideas for our Black History Month (February) and Women’s History Month (March) buses. Learn more!
