Equity on the Move: Get a month of free fare, fare relief for seniors and summer pass program for qualifying students continues

Equity on the Move

Hello! Here’s a summary of our equity and inclusion news at TriMet!

Get a month of free fare in the reduced fare program

Last month, TriMet announced a plan to use resources from Keep Oregon Moving to give a free month pass to riders who qualify for our reduced fare program based on income.

The pass will provide unlimited rides on TriMet buses and trains during the participant’s first month of enrollment. Learn more and get steps for signing up at trimet.org/save.

Fare relief for seniors, people with disabilities and veterans

Fares for seniors, veterans and people with disabilties

We’ve launched a new pilot fare relief program for community organizations to provide fare to people who qualify for our reduced fare program based on income who are seniors, have a disability or are veterans.

The program will provide organizations serving these communities up to $20,000 in fare grants to cover the cost of Adult, Honored Citizen and LIFT fares.

The application period is open through September. Community partners can apply here and join us for virtual information sessions on August 10 and 17. Learn more online

Summer pass program for qualifying students continues

High school summer pass program

TriMet’s pilot program to provide qualifying high school-age students with a free TriMet pass continues this month. The transit pass is good for unlimited rides on buses, MAX, WES and Portland Streetcar through August 31.

We’ve also expanded our list of pick up sites to include Multnomah County Library branches, Portland Parks and Recreation centers and more than two dozen other locations! Click here to see the updated site list and learn more.

The countdown to our first FX line is on

FX bus

We’re about six weeks away from the launch of our new TriMet FX™ service, and we’re throwing a free community-wide party to celebrate on Saturday, Sept. 17! We’ll have three festivals along the route plus free rides on the new green FX buses during our FX2-Division Grand Opening Celebration!

FX—Frequent Express—high-capacity bus service between Downtown Portland and Gresham begins on Sunday, September 18. Visit trimet.org/fx to stay up to date on the project and the celebration.

New Grab & Go book program launches at Beaverton Transit Center

Grab & Go book stand

Have you ever been on transit and wished you had something to read?

This week, the Beaverton City Library opened a Grab & Go collection of donated books for riders at our Beaverton Transit Center. The collection is donated, so a library card isn’t needed, and riders don’t need to return the books when they’re finished. Read more about the Grab & Go online.

Building a better community together

The site of an underused TriMet Park & Ride will be the home of a new library in the heart of Gresham. This is thanks to a partnership between TriMet and Multnomah County.

The county intends to purchase part of the Gresham City Hall Park & Ride to build a new flagship building. It’ll be similar in size and stature to Downtown Portland’s Central Library.
