Making way for ‘A Better Red’

Some 10 months after we broke ground on “A Better Red,” our MAX Red Line extension and improvement project, we’re making notable progress. Continued work on a new light rail bridge for the project will mean no MAX Red Line service for the weekend of July 30-31.

Use shuttle buses to travel between Gateway Transit Center and Portland International Airport during the disruption. Learn more at trimet.org/maxredline.

Elevating equity

We’re building on our commitment to transit equity with a new executive leadership position: Chief Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility Officer. Our Chief IDEA Officer will

continue to advance TriMet’s commitment to equity and move forward efforts to ensure all are welcome inside our agency and on the transit system.

Congratulations to John Gardner for earning a well-deserved promotion to the role after seven years leading TriMet’s Transit Equity, Inclusion and Community Affairs Division.

Gifting peace of mind

Relief is on the way for riders who qualify for our reduced fare based on income. For the next two years, we’ll use resources from Keep Oregon Moving to give a free month pass to everyone who signs up!

The pass will provide unlimited rides on TriMet buses and trains for the participant’s first month of enrollment. Learn more and get steps for signing up at trimet.org/save.

Working together for better communities

park and ride sign parking

The site of an underused TriMet Park & Ride is poised to give rise to a thriving library in the heart of Gresham. This is thanks to a partnership between TriMet and Multnomah County.

The county wants to purchase part of the Gresham City Hall Park & Ride to site a new flagship building. It’ll be similar in size and stature to Downtown Portland’s Central Library.

weights counter weights max heat 100

Did you know? Slowing MAX during extreme heat

Our MAX light rail system uses a complex system of counterweights to keep sagging overhead wires tight during extreme heat. When the mercury hits 100 degrees, the counterweights can reach their limit. That’s why we slow all trains across the system when temperatures reach 100. This gives operators time to make visual inspections and avoid potential weather-related issues before they cause concern.
