MAX Red Line will be disrupted on Saturday, July 30, and Sunday, July 31

There will be no MAX Red Line service Saturday, July 30, and Sunday, July 31. We will be making track improvements to MAX Red Line near the Gateway Transit Center to increase service reliability.

Alternate service

  • We will have shuttle buses serving stations between Gateway Transit Center and Portland International Airport.
  • Shuttle buses will be running about every 15 minutes.
  • Please plan an additional 30 minutes to your trip during the disruption. If you are traveling to the airport, don't wait for a Red Line train. Take the first train you see, whether Blue or Green, to Gateway and connect with a shuttle bus.
  • We will have staff on hand during the busiest times of the day to help direct and assist you.

Improvements to increase MAX reliability

Crews will continue working on a new light rail bridge just north of the Gateway Transit Center.

With the bridge’s supports, known as piers, in place, crews can now place the “pier cap” over our existing track. Pier caps transfer pressure from the bridge’s supports, making them sturdier and more resilient. The work is an important step in constructing a bridge that will carry a second MAX track, intended to relieve bottlenecks as Red Line trains come into Gateway.

This work is a part of A Better Red, which extends MAX Red Line west to serve 10 more stations and improves schedule reliability for the entire MAX system.
