See what we've been up to at TriMet!
TriMet is working to hire more bus drivers in the face of our worst operator shortage ever. That shortage is leading us to reduce bus service levels temporarily beginning this September. We’re planning to reduce or cancel service on 10 bus lines.
We need your help spreading the word about our open driver positions! Know someone looking for a career change or stable job? New bus operators earn $25.24 an hour to start and are eligible for a $7,500 hiring bonus. Learn more at trimet.org/drive.
We’re also growing our team of MAX operators, and we’ve now made it easier than ever to get into the cab of a train. New bus operators qualify for MAX training as soon as they finish bus training!
Ever wondered about operating a MAX train? Check out the job at trimet.org/maxoperator.
Spectacular overnight drone footage shows the delicate installation of piers for a new light rail bridge over I-84. The work is part of our “A Better Red” project.
MAX Red Line trains traveling toward City Center from PDX will use the bridge. This and other improvements in the area will help keep trains moving and make the entire MAX system more reliable.
Travel patterns have changed, and we want our bus system to catch up. Our Forward Together project is taking a deep dive into where our buses are needed most. Public feedback and a new half million dollar grant from the Federal Transit Administration will help us build a better bus system for the future.
TriMet joined the celebration at North Portland’s Albina Park over the weekend of June 19—Juneteenth!
While Juneteenth has only been a national holiday for two years—to honor the end of slavery in the United States—Juneteenth Oregon has been at it for 50 years. Dozens of TriMet volunteers joined in this year’s parade.
We teamed up with the Portland Bureau of Transportation and the Regional Arts and Cultural Council for a vibrant new mural that was unveiled during Juneteenth observations.
Local artist Mario De León created the design and worked with teens from the nonprofit Play Grow Learn to bring it to life. Titled, “We are Afro,” the mural is located on one of our electrical substations at 181st and E Burnside in Gresham
TriMet was proud once again to be part of the line up for this year’s Pride parade.
Our special 2021 Pride Month bus rolled alongside more than 100 volunteers with TriMet ties. People turned out to welcome back the parade after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
Following months of planning and public feedback, Oregon’s Secretary of State has adopted new boundaries for the districts represented by TriMet’s Board members.
The process, referred to as redistricting, is required after every census to balance out the population of each of the seven districts. Our new Board district map is posted here.
Did you know TriMet has about 700 buses in our fleet? Some are made by GILLIG and some by New Flyer. We’re adding new, 60-foot articulated buses made by Nova Bus for our TriMet FX™ bus service that starts in September. We have diesel buses running off of renewable diesel, along with a growing number of buses powered by 100% renewable electricity. And, we have eight diesel-electric hybrid buses.
Keeping them rolling takes a talented crew of mechanics. They provide around-the-clock service, support and preventative maintenance to keep the buses operating safely and reliably.
Learn how our mechanics work and about opportunities to join the crew at trimet.org/mechanics.
