Welcoming back riders

April was a milestone month for us. We averaged more than a million rides per week for the first time since March 2020!

We’re excited to see more riders getting back to their transit routines. Although masks are no longer required while riding our buses and trains, health officials  recommend them. We continue to have free masks on board.

Making plans for the future

Our Board of Directors just signed off on the budget for TriMet’s next fiscal year, which starts on July 1. In addition to bringing on more operators, the overall $1.9 billion budget includes improvements to our system and bus fleet.

We’re completing the Division Transit Project and opening FX 2-Division, our first Frequent Express bus line in September. We’re also continuing work on “A Better Red” MAX Red Line Expansion and Improvements project. And, we’re expanding our electric buses on the road to a 100% zero-emission bus fleet by 2040. Exploring the natural beauty of Washington Park

TriMet’s Line 63 has helped people get around Washington Park for years. Now, in partnership with Explore Washington Park, we’ve extended the route for people to easily travel between the International Rose Test Garden and Downtown Portland.

Combined with Washington Park’s daily year-round shuttle, which runs inside the park, this creates a direct connection between Pioneer Courthouse Square and one of our region’s most beloved natural attractions.

Helping students access transit

We’re making it easier for students to get on board this summer, with a new pilot program that’s a companion to our High School Student Access Program.

Using Statewide Transportation Improvement Funds (STIF) from Keep Oregon Moving, TriMet will temporarily offer summer transit passes to local high school students who are transit dependent and low income.

Celebrating multicultural bus designs

TriMet thanks the Portland chapter of the American Marketing Association for honoring our multicultural celebration buses. The buses featured historic figures and leaders in recognition of national months of cultural observation.

AMA PDX awarded the multicultural program the “Best in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” as well as “Best in Engaged Brand Community.”

This year’s designs celebrate cultural heritage through the work of local artists as a nod to the 25th anniversary of TriMet’s Public Arts program.

Did you know? Honoring Juneteenth

Last year, on June 19, Gov. Kate Brown signed a bill into law to make Juneteenth an official holiday in Oregon.

Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when people enslaved in Texas learned that the Civil War was over and that they were free.

TriMet is proud to recognize Juneteenth as an annual agency holiday starting this year, renewing our commitment to the values that unite and unify us.

As Juneteenth falls on a Sunday this year, the holiday will be observed on Monday, June 20. TriMet will provide regular bus, MAX and LIFT service.
