Equity on the Move: Meet our Safety Response Team, $3,500 hiring bonus and making Division Street safer

Equity on the Move

Hello! Here’s a summary of our equity and inclusion news at TriMet!

Getting to know our Safety Response Team

Safety Response Team

Meet TriMet’s Safety Response team. You may have already seen them on MAX, and at stations and transit centers doing outreach to those that need help. The team provides an extra presence. They’re not armed, but they are trained in conflict resolution.

Learn more about how they’re connecting people with community-based social service in this video.

Boosting the bonus to $3,500 for new bus operators

Hiring bus operators

Have you heard? We increased our hiring bonus to $3,500 for new bus operators! That’s in addition to paid training and guaranteed raises that can earn you at least $68,000 annually after three years.

Watch what our operators have to say about the low- to no-cost medical, dental and vision benefits, and why they love driving for us!

Making Division Street safer for everyone

The Division Transit Project, which opens as our new TriMet FX™ bus service this fall, is making vital safety improvements to Division Street.

Watch how we installed new crossings and sidewalks to make it safer for people walking, rolling and driving on Division.

Weigh in on TriMet’s proposed budget

TriMet’s proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2023 prioritizes projects to make bus and light rail faster and more reliable, accelerates our adoption of clean fuel technologies, makes investments to address the operator shortage and advances transit equity by supporting riders struggling financially. For the tenth straight year, we’re not proposing a base fare increase.

View the budget and learn how to provide feedback at trimet.org/budget.

Reminder: MAX Red Line disruption continues through March 9

Better Red disruption

MAX Red Line trains aren’t running through Saturday, March 9, as crews finish track work critical for the Better Red Project. Shuttle buses are taking riders between Gateway Transit Center and PDX during the disruption.

Riders should plan an extra 30 minutes for trips. Thanks for your patience!

Women’s History Month recap

Women's History Month bus

Have you seen the special bus we debuted last month to celebrate Women’s History Month? It was designed by Portland-based artist Meg Adamson and will be in service throughout the tri-county area for the rest of the year.

Watch a timelapse of the incredible art going up on the bus and learn more about TriMet’s Public Art Program online.

Public Safety update

Thanks to everyone who shared the request for proposals for TriMet's community-based mini trainings for our front-line staff and system partners. We're reviewing them now and anticipate awarding the contracts later this month.
