Returning to transit

Returning to transit for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic? Find out what’s changed and what hasn’t with our “How to Ride” refresher

Temporarily disrupting MAX for A Better Red

Better Red logo

From April 2-9, work on the Better Red project will suspend MAX Red Line service. With no Red Line trains running, shuttle buses will take you between Gateway Transit Center and PDX.

We suggest riders plan an extra 30 minutes for trips during the eight-day disruption.

Seeing green on Division

TriMet FX articulated bus

Starting this April, operators and field staff will begin regular training with TriMet’s new, articulated buses for the Division Transit Project. The project will open to riders this fall with the debut of our first FX - or Frequent Express - bus line!

Our FX buses are bright green with blue stripes, and they’re 60-feet long, with an accordion-style section that allows for safe turns.

Meet our Safety Response Team

Whether it's with a wave or a smile, you may notice a new TriMet team welcoming you when you return to transit. These are members of our Safety Response Team. While they typically ride MAX, you may also see them at stations and transit centers.

They provide a safety presence while working to connect people in and around the system with community-based social services. Learn more about the team

Budgeting for Fiscal Year 2023

Our proposed budget for the upcoming year keeps transportation priorities on track as the region bounces back from the COVID-19 pandemic. The budget includes $736.7 million for our day-to-day operating requirements and $246 million in capital improvements. For the tenth straight year, TriMet is not proposing a fare increase.

View the budget and learn how to provide feedback at trimet.org/budget.

Adjusting TriMet’s Board districts

district map

After each new federal census, under the direction of the Oregon Secretary of State, TriMet must reassess the boundaries of the seven districts served by our Board members. This is to make sure each district represents roughly the same number of people.

We’re hosting two virtual open houses on the proposed changes to our district map. Join us Tuesday, April 5, 5-6 p.m. (Spanish) or Wednesday, April 6, 5-6 p.m. (English). Get links at trimet.org/board/redistricting

Celebrating Women’s History

Women's History Month whm 2022

Women’s History Month is wrapping up, but the celebration rolls on with TriMet! Our Women’s History Month bus is decorated with the work of Portland-based artist Meg Adamson. It will serve communities throughout the tri-county area for the next nine months.

Like all of the special buses we’re designing this year, to celebrate our region’s diversity and heritage, the design features elements from TriMet’s Public Art Program, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2022!

Did you know? Transit project improve safety for autos too

Division DTP Safety crosswalk

The Division Transit Project is making Division Street safer for everyone who rolls or walks along Division Street. We partnered with PBOT to makeover the corridor, with easier access and more convenient connections for pedestrians, cyclists and auto drivers.

Watch this video about new crossings and sidewalks, and click here to see how the center medians and protected intersections are making the street safer and more welcoming.
