See what we've been up to at TriMet!

Rolling out the new trimet.org!

A view of the new trimet.org

We’ve rolled out a major update to our website, complete with tools to make it faster, easier and more convenient to plan your trip. The revamped site taps into new technology with exciting upgrades like an interactive map that lets you track your bus or train!

Honoring a civil rights icon

Rosa Parks Day flier

TriMet will once again offer free rides on the birthday of Rosa Parks. No fares will be collected on Friday, Feb. 4, Rosa Parks Transit Equity Day. C-TRAN and Portland Streetcar are joining us in the free-ride day to honor her legacy, too.

Joining the TriMet family

To help recruit operators, TriMet just removed a long-standing requirement for all bus operators to start part-time. In addition to having immediate access to full-time work, new operators receive a $2,500 hiring bonus, excellent benefits and starting pay of $21.84 per hour.https://trimet.org/careers/part-time-bus-operator.htm

“When you come to TriMet, you become family,” according to Cheree Marks, a bus training supervisor who is a third generation TriMet bus driver! For more than 25 years, Cheree, her mom or grandmother have been at the wheel of one of our buses. Hear why.

Introducing our new Executive Director of Safety & Security

Andrew Wilson

We’re excited to have Andrew Wilson now leading TriMet’s Safety and Security efforts. Andrew has been with TriMet since 2016, serving as our Director Risk Management and earlier in 2021, Interim Director of Safety and Environmental Services. He brings decades of experience and a deep commitment to safety to the new role.

Making transit safer

Updates are coming to the TriMet Code that will make our system safer for employees ad riders.

They further prohibit police from checking fares. Our General Manager will be able to issue long-term exclusions for anyone who spits on a TriMet employee or commits a similar crime. And, TriMet supervisors will be allowed to issue citations or exclusions for non-criminal violations to laws or ordinances, such as possessing a small amount of drugs or drug use on board. The changes go into effect Feb. 25 after being approved by our Board of Directors.

Lighting up Division

Seeing is believing on Division Street, where the Division Transit Project is really taking shape! Crews recently lit up a station to test communications and power systems along the new bus line. The Division Transit Project team will study the findings and make modifications as needed. The coming months will see much more testing as we prepare for our new TriMet-FX™ service, launching this fall.

Looking back on 2021

TriMet made big strides to support our region’s climate goals in 2021, cutting our greenhouse gas emissions by 63%! Taking action for the climate was one of the many accomplishments we celebrated as we bid farewell to 2021.

Did you know? Hop Fastpass™

Hop Fastpass

Late last year, Hop Fastpass™ recorded its 100 millionth tap! That’s a lot of taps since we launched the contactless, electronic fare program on July 5, 2017. Riders simply tap their plastic or virtual Hop card to pay for the ride. This not only makes riding quick and easy, it also guarantees you never pay more than you need to ride transit.
