TriMet on the Move: New electric buses rolling in, rolling out the red carpet to speed up buses, 'Dear 44' - a NFL players ode to Line 44, MAX-iversaries and more!

TriMet

Summer may be winding down but we're not! Check out what's happening at TriMet.

Extending mask requirement on public transit

The Transportation Security Administration has extended the mask requirement on public transit through Jan. 18, 2022.

We at TriMet thank everyone for keeping their masks on—to protect themselves, the children in their lives and others. We have free masks on board if you need a fresh one. TriMet has distributed well over 7 million disposable masks to riders, employees and members of the community.

Rolling out our fall service

TriMet's fall service schedule begins Sunday, Sept. 5. We're making changes to some bus lines that should reduce delays and better serve more riders. See if your line is one of them.

Keeping buses moving

Rose Lane painting

Our buses have picked up the pace through downtown – and everywhere they travel after leaving downtown – thanks to the red transit-only lanes the City of Portland’s Bureau of Transportation and other partners have been rolling out.

The rollout of these lanes has continued throughout the pandemic. See how they’ve helped speed travel on buses through our tri-country service area.

Providing riders better information

ePaper digital display

We're installing new digital information displays at our busiest transit centers and bus stops, with an emphasis on low-income communities.

The glare-resistant solar-powered displays are similar to an e-reader or tablet. They let riders simply look up and see when their bus will be arriving. We’ve installed 166 so far and plan to have up to 200 by year’s end. The displays are part of our equity efforts.

Primary funding came from House Bill 2017: Keep Oregon Moving. We appreciate Oregon lawmakers who supported the legislation to establish new funding for public transportation throughout the state!

Supporting businesses during Division Transit Project

Division Transit Project construction at SE 174th and Division

Construction continues up and down Division Street for our new, high-capacity bus service arriving fall 2022. KPTV's On the Go with Joe V. has helped us encourage people to come out and support the businesses. Watch and find a new favorite spot!

We're also raffling off gift cards to popular Division Street businesses! Enter here.

Paying tribute to Line 44

NFL player and Portland native Brennan Scarlett - Dear 44 clothing line

NFL linebacker and Portland native Brennan Scarlett recently paid tribute to our Line 44—the bus line of his youth. Brennan teamed up with Portland Gear for a limited-edition clothing collection called “Dear 44”. (All the items have already sold out!)

Brennan shared with us how the bus helped broaden his world, and set him on a path to Stanford University and the NFL. In his “Dear 44” ode, Brennan wrote, “I realize now that the destination isn’t so important. The truth is in the journey. All that really matters, that we make the ride worth the fare. Just Keep Riding.” We agree!

Arriving now! The ebuses of the future

GILLIG long-range battery-electric bus

The final of our five all-electric GILLIG buses will be arriving in the next few weeks.

We're excited to test these long-range electric buses to see how far they can travel a single charge as we drive toward a 100% zero-emissions bus fleet by 2040. The first of the GILLIG electric buses may begin carrying riders in service later this year!
