On Her Own Wings: Oregon Women and the Struggle for Suffrage

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, the Oregon State Archives is proud to announce a brand new exhibit!

On Her Own WingsOregon Women and the Struggle for Suffrage explores the history of voting rights in Oregon and the United States with a special focus on the tumultuous opening of the twentieth century. Today, most adults living in this country enjoy access to voting rights, but may not be aware of how recently those rights were gained. Beginning in the 1800s Oregon’s women battled for the right to vote in state elections – and continued that fight until their hard work was rewarded in the ratification of the 19th Amendment.

The exhibit On Her Own Wings showcases the people, events, and symbolism crucial to this cause, the powerful forces acting in opposition to woman suffrage, as well as the groups excluded from the movement who had to win their rights in future struggles.
