 Filtration construction update
The filtration facility site is humming with activity as more pieces of critical new water infrastructure are installed each week. With about 420 craft workers on-site, keeping construction moving full steam ahead takes careful sequencing and constant coordination. The 95-acre site is a moving chessboard of construction crews, heavy equipment, concrete and material deliveries, and more.
Over the past month, our contractors have made remarkable progress installing the massive 72-inch-diameter underground pipes that will bring water across the facility site to the inlet of the treatment process. Once the pipes are tested and ready, crews will backfill the large trench where the pipes were installed and grade over the top.
Our contractors are also close to completing the “Multnomah Connection” tie-in at Lusted Road near the county line where new pipes connect directly with one of our existing water conduits. Crews will then be able to repave and reopen that part of Lusted Road to get traffic flowing again.
Pipeline progress: see how far we've come
As we say goodbye to the dog days of summer, we thought we’d celebrate recent construction progress milestones with a little fun. Take a trip through the archives with us to see how far pipeline construction has come!
Test your knowedge..
Wondering what’s different about pipeline construction today? Test your knowledge of the tunnel construction and then watch the video for answers.

- How many raw water pipeline tunnels are being constructed?
- How long will each tunnel be?
- What are crews using to excavate the tunnels?
- How are crews removing rocks and dirt from the tunnels?
- How far are crews excavating before they stop and build a new section of the tunnel?
