Portland City Elections receives signature submissions for two initiative petitions intended for Portland’s November ballot

Chief petitioners for two City initiative petitions submitted signatures to Portland City Elections today, July 6, 2026. City Elections has 30 days to complete signature verification for both petitions to determine if they have the required 40,437 valid signatures of Portlanders to qualify for the November 3, 2026, ballot. The City will announce results for both petitions on or before the deadline for verification, August 5, 2026. 

• Petitioners for Initiative Petition 1PDX2025 (Community Budgeting for All) reported submitting 78,743 signatures. View the proposed text of Initiative Petition 1PDX2025 and related filing documents.
• Petitioners for Initiative Petition 1PDX2026 (Portland Enhanced Community Safety Initiative) reported submitting 63,315 signatures. View the proposed text of Initiative Petition 1PDX2026 and related filing documents.

A City initiative petition must include at least 40,437 valid signatures from registered Portland voters to qualify for this November’s ballot. According to Portland City Code, the required number of signatures is nine percent of the number of registered City voters on the date of the primary election before the petition was filed.

Over the next 30 days, Portland City Elections will work with Multnomah County Elections to verify the signatures according to City and state law.
