November construction update
|
|
|
Starting this November 2025, the Portland Water Bureau is installing 3,350 feet of water main (pipe) in Southwest Portland.
 Change to planned activities
We originally planned to start this project at the intersection of SW Chestnut Street and SW Burlingame Avenue and move downhill. However, it will be more efficient to start at the intersection of SW Second Avenue and SW Nevada Street and move uphill.

Happening now
This month, crews will begin installing water main (pipes) starting at the intersection of SW Nevada Street and SW Second Avenue.
Crews are starting work at the intersection of SW Nevada Street and SW Second Avenue and moving uphill toward SW Fifth Avenue.
The project will continue in sections along SW Nevada Avenue, SW Fifth Avenue, and SW Chestnut Street.
During this phase, crews will:
- Sawcut the pavement
- Dig trenches for the new water pipes
-
Install the new water pipes
-
Temporarily cover open trenches each evening while work is in progress
We will begin underground drilling near I-5 after we’ve completed open trench excavation.
Road closures
Construction in the street will happen in sections starting on SW Nevada Street this November. Crews will work on a portion of the road during work hours and reopen the road each evening.
Here's what you can expect during road closures:
- Each closure will take about one to two weeks.
- Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Schedules are subject to change based on weather, availability of machinery, and other team needs.
- Traffic signs and flaggers will direct travelers around the closure areas during work hours.
- Crews will cover open trenches each day using steel plates or gravel topped with asphalt patches.
-
There may be periods of inactivity on your road through different phases of this project. .
