Project overview
The Water Bureau is investing in reliable water service in North Portland. We will replace 1,800 feet of water main (pipe) with earthquake-resistant pipe and install six hydrants on North Schmeer Road.
|
|
We're connecting the new pipe to existing service lines.

|
Construction happening now
The new pipe has been tested, and we will now connect it to existing service lines. Crews will:
- Notify neighbors of water shutoffs
- Shut off water from the existing pipe
- Connect the new pipe and service lines to the water system
- Turn on the water in the new pipe
Water shutoffs
During this stage, we will need to shut off water for about one day. Water Bureau crews will post notices to affected properties at least 24 hours before a shutoff.
Once the new pipe has been connected to service lines, we will clean up the project site and repair any damage from construction. Crews will:
- Complete permanent pavement of trenches
- Repair curbs and sidewalks impacted by construction
- Restore vegetation disturbed during construction

|
This project will require road closures on North Schmeer Road between North Vancouver Avenue and North Whitaker Road.
Detour routes will change as work progresses. Traffic signs and flaggers will direct travelers around the closure areas. Stay alert and use caution as traffic may suddenly slow or stop.
