Green Awards & Sustainability Luncheon Thursday, March 5 | Noon to 1 pm Willamette Heritage Center | Spinning Room
Marion County Environmental Services EarthWISE program in partnership with Salem Environmental Education is proud to celebrate with the community at 11:45 on March 5, 2020, at the third annual Sustainability Luncheon and Green Awards in the Spinning Room of the Willamette Heritage Center
This year we come together in the spirit of sharing our sustainable success stories. Embracing sustainable and green principles is not just a trend. Cultivating sustainable and green practices helps businesses become more efficient, competitive, and profitable. With that comes the challenge of sharing your innovations with the public and stakeholders. Telling your sustainable stories is just as important as implementation and in-house support.
Join us for a networking lunch with our keynote speaker Mary Louise VanNatta, APR, CAE, CEO of VanNatta Public Relations as she highlights tools that will help you communicate your sustainable stories effectively.

Join us in congratulating these Master Recyclers for completing their 30 payback hours!
Mary Alice
"Fulfilling the task of thirty hours of green education required some serious
thought. Nearly five years into retirement and settled into my new home in Salem, I had few connections with like-minded people. Learning about the Master Recycler program in the media sparked my desire to get involved.
I was considering how to assemble groups of people I could speak with. My neighbors to the east happened to be a mobile-home community. So that’s where I started. They were agreeable to gathering their members for an informational recycling meeting.
From this point, I started calling other mobile-home parks and asking if residents were confused about their recycling. I offered to review the services available in Marion County. “Show and tell” usually works; so I gathered suggestions from “Recycle Right” pamphlets. I also described changes I had made in my own home. Presenting these show-and-tell scenarios helped spark new ideas. Being able to answer questions was greatly appreciated by everyone attending.
It was truly enjoyable working the Art Fair and Home Show, helping make the holiday commercial and participating in the hospital exercise. And the best way to enjoy these activities is by collaborating with a recycling friend.
This wasn’t work; it was truly fun. Those of us who got involved now have the tools to help build ways to save our environment. We need more many more participants in the efforts to “reduce, reuse and recycle.”
Brother Cyril Drnjevic
"Since fall 2019, I presented Master Recycler talks at these locations and was received well, and sometimes very well:
Holy Family Academy, near Mt. Angel St. Vincent de Paul School, Salem St. Joseph Elementary, Salem Saint Luke Catholic School, Woodburn Saint John Bosco Catholic High School, Brooks Sacred Heart School, Gervais Mount Angel Seminary, Saint Benedict Chesterton Academy, Mt. Angel Bethany Charter School, Bethany Pratum School, Pratum St. Mary Public School, Mt. Angel Beyond Recycling, Jan. 30
The theology teacher at Regis High School, in Stayton asked me to contact him after Easter, 2020 to arrange multi-hour workshop there, in the fall of 2020 or the spring of 2021. This began as a 3-hour workshop I presented at Regis in December, 2017."
We want to hear what you've been up to! Connect with our Master Recycler Coordinator Alan Pennington to report your hours and keep him up-to-date.
