Green Awards & Sustainability Luncheon Thursday, March 5 | Noon to 1 pm Willamette Heritage Center | Spinning Room
Marion County Environmental Services EarthWISE program in partnership with Salem Environmental Education is proud to celebrate with the community at 11:45 on March 5, 2020, at the third annual Sustainability Luncheon and Green Awards in the Spinning Room of the Willamette Heritage Center
This year we come together in the spirit of sharing our sustainable success stories. Embracing sustainable and green principles is not just a trend. Cultivating sustainable and green practices helps businesses become more efficient, competitive and profitable. With that comes the challenge of sharing your innovations with the public and stakeholders. Telling your sustainable stories is just as important as implementation and in-house support.
Join us for a networking lunch with our keynote speaker Mary Louise VanNatta, APR, CAE, CEO of VanNatta Public Relations as she highlights tools that will help you communicate your sustainable stories effectively.

Summer Reyes If you know Summer, you know she is passionate about many things; community building, waste reduction, recycling, the Oregon Ducks (to only name a few). We've enjoyed watching Summer communicate these loves and bring people together through social media posts and planning events to foster deeper connections. She remains a positive force in the world, and we are ever so grateful for her efforts.
Jay Charland If you need something done, simply ask Jay. Jay first volunteered his time at the Art & Craft Supply Swap in 2019. When Jay heard that we had a need for a space to host future swaps, Jay connected with his church (Faith Lutheran Church) and helped coordinate the logistics for the first-ever Toy Swap. He took care of the behind the scenes coordination with the church and even helped install signage. We look forward to many more community swaps with Jay and Faith Lutheran in the future.
Daisy Santana When the call went out to remind Master Recyclers to help others (and themselves) from getting caught up in the holiday gift-fever, Daisy reported back with some of the ways she and her family participated in gifting. They were such thoughtful ideas that we wanted to share them with all of you. Here's some of what they did:
- Made planters from materials in her bins.
- Created silverware rolls for lunch boxes that were wrapped in an upcycled thrift store napkins.
- Made beeswax wraps.
- Handprint ornaments were made from dough. If broken or discarded...compostable!
The above items were all made with Daisy working one-on-one with her kids or nephews. Thus, the kids got the best gift of all - the gift of Daisy's time!
Lauren Ostrander Our first-ever Master Recycler from the small town of Donald, Lauren has created her own local recycling education program. By working with the Donald city council to get their blessing and assistance, Lauren has been able to put out the call that she is available to city businesses and residents to review 3-R options and practices in their community. As a result, the largest business in Donald - a hazelnut processing facility - has asked for her assistance in ways they can reduce waste.
We want to hear what you've been up to! Connect with our Master Recycler Coordinator Alan Pennington to report your hours and keep him up-to-date.
