Marion County residents are invited to show how to avoid waste and reuse materials! This month’s challenge will be reducing/reusing plastic jars (all of those pesky peanut butter or mayonnaise jars). Since these jars are NOT allowed in the mixed recycling cart, share your photo of how you reuse these jars and or reduce using these jars.
Submit photos, your name, address, and phone number by September 21, 2018.

Jean Swap Update
The Back-to-School Blue Jean Swap at the Salem Public Library supplied over 280 jeans to swappers and those in need. Dana Canning, Master Recycler and coordinator of the Salem Sleeping Bag project collected pants deemed to be “beyond the pale” (stains, non-functioning zippers, holes, etc.) to be used as fiber in making sleeping bags for the homeless. The remaining 80 pairs of jeans will be donated to Helping Hands, a local organization that provides free clothing to those in need. Many thanks to the Salem Public Library for this partnership as well as Emily Vincent and Dana Canning for volunteering at the event.
