Friends
and Neighbors,
The
78th Legislative Assembly convened this week and I’m proud to
represent Senate District 25 as your State Senator. I’m ready to get to work to
invest in job creation, improve access to quality K-12 and higher education, protect
Oregon’s clean air and water for future generations, and prioritize support for
Oregonians who are struggling to get by.
Your feedback is
incredibly important, and I want to hear your priorities for Senate District 25
and Oregon. To weigh in, please consider taking my 2015
Session Survey, or email
sen.lauriemonnesanderson@state.or.us or call my office at the State Capitol at 503

2015 Legislative
Agenda
This
week, Oregon Senate Democrats introduced their 2015 Legislative
Agenda,
which prioritizes the concerns that I’ve heard from so many community members
in Senate District 25.
Specifically,
the Senate Democrats’ 2015 Legislative Agenda focuses on five key areas:
- Invest in Education and Workforce Development
- Strengthen Oregon Businesses and Create Family Wage
Jobs
- Stand up for Rural Oregon Communities
- Fight for Working Families and Struggling Oregonians
- Ensure Efficient Government to Protect Critical
Services
Proposals
aim to protect school funding and prioritize early childhood education, make
college more affordable, expand career training opportunities, invest in
critical transportation infrastructure, protect Oregon’s clean air and water,
ensure Oregonians can access mental health services, strengthen contracting
laws, and scrutinize tax credits to ensure they are reaching their intended
purpose to create jobs and stimulate the economy.
Our objectives are
achievable and common-sense, and they’re the priorities of everyday Oregonians
who know we must invest in education and job creation.
As we
embark on this 78th Legislative Session, I want to stress my
commitment to working in a bipartisan manner to find
solutions to the problems you care most about. The challenges we face are not
simple ones, but together I know we can reinvest in education, protect our most
vulnerable, and get people back to work by helping small businesses across the
state.
Senator Monnes Anderson Meeting with Gresham Head Start
2015 Priority
Legislation:
I
strongly believe it is our duty as Legislators to do everything we can to help
the victims of domestic violence and stop further acts from happening. There
are two very important bills I am championing this year:
Senate
Bill 525
Would prohibit those convicted of domestic
violence from owning firearms
Senate
Bill 526
Would modify certain definition of “physical injury” relating to domestic
violence
As
Chair of the Senate Committee on Health Care (as well as a retired nurse), I am
committed to maintaining a strong, healthy Oregon. Because of this commitment, I
am sponsoring three bills this session relating to smoking and smoking products
in our State:
Senate Bill 340
Would prohibit the sale of e-cigarettes to minors
Senate
Bill 415
Would
ban the sale of flavored tobacco and similar products in the State
Senate
Bill 445
Would
require marijuana facilities to post a notice of the risks and harmful effects
or marijuana on pregnant women
