Dear Friends and Neighbors,

As we make our way toward the conclusion of the 2013 Legislative session, I remain focused on education and job creation as my top priorities. This week the House passed funding for community colleges, universities, and several elements of the public safety system, in addition to bills that will help small businesses navigate government agencies and make it easier for them to grow.

I remain optimistic that before the session ends the Legislature will find an agreement that will allow us to secure additional new revenue to invest in education. We are poised to turn the corner and stop the seemingly unending school cuts in most school districts throughout our state. With a small amount of new revenue, we could do even better.

Next week will be a big week for resolving many of the outstanding issues related to education funding and jobs and economic development initiatives, among other things. I look forward to reporting next week that the Oregon Senate has passed the K-12 schools budget, the hospital and long term care self-assessments to support jobs and health care, and that we have reached an agreement to raise revenue to improve school funding.

Many of the issues that matter most to Oregonians across the state will be front and center in the House and Senate next week. I think we are positioned to make Oregonians proud.

Have a great weekend.

As always, it is a pleasure to represent you.

Best wishes,

State Representative Tina Kotek
