The Volunteer Experience at the Oregon State Capitol

A blast from the past! Our last Statehood Celebration was in 2019! Here's Marge showing her Oregon Spirit.

Celebration of Statehood

This year, our Celebration of Statehood falls directly on the day Oregon was admitted to the Union - February 14. As is tradition, we'll be opening the Capitol on Saturday to host event partners like Yamhill County History Museum, AC Gilbert House, and Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, share our building, and provide some sweet treats to attendees.

We still need 3 or 4 volunteers! Shifts will run 9:30-2pm. If you can only make part of the day, that works too! Just let us know. Email Lacey to sign up for a shift.

Cherry Blossom Day - Volunteers needed!

On Saturday, March 21, we'll be celebrating Cherry Blossom Day. This annual event is one of our most popular and well attended. We are so excited to have the return of some in-building activities like the tea ceremony!

We will need volunteers for various roles:

  • The Cherry - Take pictures with attendees, say hello, and act as the event mascot. Requires steady walking. (You can do this and something else - the cherry just goes out for 2 half hour stints.)
  • Program Handlers - pass out info and answer directional questions.
  • Hospitality Suite Stocker - make sure the room for event partners, volunteers and staff is full of goodies to keep us all refueled.
  • Information Desk - Answer questions and give directions.
  • Store - run the POS and assist with folks making purchases.
  • Guides - provide interpretation for folks visiting different parts of the building.
  • Visitor Services table - help with info about what VS does, and run our educational activities.

Email Lacey to sign up for a shift. Shifts are available 9:30-2:30, 9:30-12, or 12:2-30.

New Arrivals!

Embroidered flags are back in stock! After a hiatus, we're happy to announce the return of our 3x5" embroidered flag. Add some flair to your desk and a touch of class. The flags are even double-sided, just like the full sized ones!

Introducing "She Flies with Her Own Wings" - now you can represent Oregon's motto wherever you go! Keep your eyes peeled for the official unveiling!

What's in a Name?

The Eugene Register Guard just published an interesting article about Oregon's name origins. Spoiler: We still don't know exactly, but there are some ideas. Read it here!
