April 4th, 2025 Newsletter
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
As we approach the first chamber deadline, everyone at the Capitol is working hard to move bills to the next phase of the process.
Legislative Priorities
Four of the bills that I am chief sponsoring passed out of committee this week and are headed for the House Floor:
HB3178 requires more transparency and equity in regard to vehicle sales.
HB3865, the Telemarketing Modernization Act adds texting to our current telephone solicitation laws. It also prohibits solicitors from calling or texting after 7:00 p.m. and limits the total number of solicitations to 3 within 24 hours.
HB3533 eliminates hidden “junk fees” by requiring sellers to disclose the total price of an item in advertisements.
HB 3605 empowers consumers to stand up for themselves if they are subjected to unlawful sales tactics by door-to-door salespeople.
We held a public hearing on HB2008 which would update our data privacy laws to prohibit the sale of our geo-tracking data (i.e. the data our phones collect about where we live, work, shop, etc.) and any data about children who are 16 years old and younger.
Housing & Homelessness
We held works sessions on HB3921 and HB2647 which would facilitate Urban Growth Boundary land exchanges for the cities of Monmouth and Roseburg as well as Douglas County to create more buildable land for housing in those parts of Oregon.
Bill Tracking
First Chamber Deadline Approaching
In order for a bill to move forward in this session, it needs to be voted out of a policy committee by April 9th. Committees on Revenue, Rules, and all Joint Committees are not subject to these deadlines.
