3440 passed out of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources! I'm so proud to be Chief Sponsoring this bill that will allow smaller counties, like Deschutes County, to use tax foreclosure receipts to support youth and families experiencing housing insecurity. As our communities in Central Oregon grow so quickly, the people who live here deserve urgent action, stability and support.
Bipartisanship! Bipartisanship is an important part of governing. I’m proud to say that as of May 9th this session, 87% of House Bills passed have 3 or more Republican “yes” votes. From addressing homelessness and affordable housing to semiconductors, we’ve come together and delivered for Oregonians. Of course, bipartisanship doesn’t mean we’ll agree on everything, but it’s great to see we’ve put aside partisan bickering to get things done.
Thank you to the Oregon Early Childhood Coalition for coming by the Capitol to advocate for childcare and early child intervention programs. We must invest in our early childhood programs, it's the biggest bang for our buck. If we can give children a good start from the very beginning, the outcomes are better for the child, family and community.
With hot temperatures in the forecast this weekend, it’s important to stay cool, stay hydrated, and stay informed! Sign up for emergency alerts to receive heat advisories and warnings at oralert.gov.
Watch for signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Please check on your neighbors, especially older adults and anyone who might have a health condition that could put them at higher risk for heat-related illness.
If you are worried about a friend, family member or neighbor you can't get in touch with, you can call non-emergency dispatch at 541-693-6911.
More information, including cooling center information can be found at oregon.gov/heat.
Its time to vote! There's an election on Tuesday, May 16. Get all the info you need at Oregonvotes.gov. May 16 is a Special District Election, which is run at the county level.
