Legislative Update + You’re Invited!

Represenative Emerson Levy

It has been a big week in Oregon politics.

This week, HB 2002HB 2005 and HB 2107 passed in the House.

HB 2002 is our historic Reproductive Health and Access to Care Bill, protecting Oregonians’ basic rights and freedoms. This bill builds on the belief that every Oregonian–no matter your income, race, gender, or zip code–should have the right to make deeply personal healthcare decisions without interference from politicians.

HB 2005 is our major Gun Violence Prevention Bill this session. This bill will help law enforcement, respects responsible gun owners, and makes our communities and schools safer.

House Bill 2107 expands Oregon’s Automatic Voter Registration (AVR) system to the Oregon Health Plan (OHP). Oregonians have consistently embraced the value that voting should be convenient, accessible, and secure. This bill will ensure that more Oregonians can participate in the democratic process and make their voices heard.

As of today, the Senate Republicans have walked out. The Oregon House of Representatives continues to do the People’s work, and we have a quorum. We have a great spirit of bipartisanship on the House side and hope to maintain that energy through the end of the session.

Secretary of State Shemia Fagan has resigned. As a fellow member of the State Bar, I am thoroughly disappointed in her actions and I support her resignation. I look forward to supporting Deputy Secretary Cheryl Myers as she becomes acting secretary next week and begins to rebuild trust of the agency.

I want to thank my colleagues for all their hard work protecting our rights, keeping our communities safe, and expanding Oregonians' access to participate in the democratic process.

Weekly Happenings!

Yesterday was OSU Day here at the Capitol! We always love an excuse to celebrate the good work of Oregon State University. OSU students, faculty and alums have done a great job advocating for funds, grants and capital construction requests this session. OSU has my full support, and it is an honor to have such a great institution represented in Central Oregon. House District 53 currently has 1,006 students enrolled at OSU- Let's go Beavs!

Go Beavers!
