Remembering State Rep. Gary Leif

gary

Oregon House Republican Leader Christine Drazan released the
following statement following the news of Oregon Representative Gary Leif’s passing:

“I am deeply saddened by the unexpected loss of our friend and colleague Gary Leif. Gary’s sense of humor, his commitment to bipartisanship and his love of family and community marked his service in the Oregon Legislature. I am grateful for my time working directly with Gary. His energy and enthusiasm accomplished great work for his district, and he will be sorely missed. Not only was he a valued colleague, but he was also a mentor and supporter within our caucus. He would frequently check on members to see how they were doing and provide helpful advice. His patient and humble demeanor was a constant and positive presence, especially for freshmen legislators looking for guidance in their new roles. On behalf of the House Republican Caucus, we send our deepest condolences to Gary’s wife Carol and his family.”

Redistricting: Feedback Requested

draft

The Redistricting Committees will be hitting the road in September. This is the current DRAFT of the locations that will be visited.

Redistricting is a once-a-decade process constitutionally required of the Legislature. We are tasked with redrawing Congressional, State Senate and State House district boundaries to account for changes in population. Oregon will gain a sixth Congressional seat, giving Oregon more representation in the US Congress.

The redistricting process itself is monumental and historical. We have the opportunity for a better Oregon, and we have a path to achieve that. The House Committee is made up of three Republicans and three Democrats. Undeniably, this is good, fair and balanced representation for the communities we serve. Your input and public testimony are essential to the process of drawing these lines.

National redistricting experts have listed our state as high risk of gerrymandering. I believe this committee can prove them wrong by holding the most fair and transparent redistricting process following the Constitution and Oregon Statute. It is important each Oregonian has equal representation. I can’t stress enough the importance of speaking up and lending your voice to the next round of hearings in September.

This website will have updated locations, dates and times. Please mark your calendars.

NEW OR-ALERT System

alert

OR-Alert is an effort to ensure statewide access to receive alerts, warnings, and notifications (AWN) systems, enabling real-time sharing of hazard information across Oregon’s 36 counties and tribal governments. This technology also allows county emergency managers to access notification tools including FEMA’s Integrated Alerts and Warnings System (IPAWS) which is capable of issuing messaging to all cell phones in a geographic area. This OR-Alert page will direct you to the sign up page for each county in Oregon.

During this legislative session break and for the rest of this year, my office will continue to keep you updated and informed - and is always at your service. The Oregon State Capitol is currently open to the public, but due to reconstruction, the House and Senate offices are currently under construction and thus my office is working remotely. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any community event announcements, legislative questions, or concerns.
